Important BETH update - transplant scheduled for Thursday/Friday   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #4577 of 4593 |
Hi Praying Friends, this is an up to the moment prayer alert.

Dave called me a few moments ago on his cell from the parking lot of
home depot. He said that tomorrow is an important day for Beth.
Tomorrow morning she gets the last in the series of full body radiation
treatments to suppress her own bone marrow in preparation to receive
the new donor stem cells.

These new cells, which are from an exact matching donor, have not left
Europe yet! Both these things are to happen tomorrow. According to
the plan, she may even receive the new stem cells as early as late
Thursday, that's tomorrow night!

This is a crucial part of the process and also a spot where things can
go awry. As much as many other types of transplants are concerned with
host rejection, in this case its the opposite and its called host graft
disease. The new, foreign, but fully viable stem cells are injected
via IV. They are not pre-programed where to go. They just float about
till they hit the now decimated marrow tissue and hopefully implant
there.

The new stem cells may try to implant in the wrong place? That is host
graft disease, for at times they can be rather aggressive in these
misguided attempts. Much of this of course is attempted to be
controlled by medications. Also Beth's body has been prepared for all
this as much as possible. But these are microscopic cells, its not as
if they can stop and ask for directions. Even if they are female
cells. (sorry, couldn't resist)

Host Graft disease is the problem with these type of cellular
transplants. Now it does not happen every time, and sometimes it is a
controllable side effect. Yet this is the way these transplants can go
off track. These issues can be minor, up to bigger problems.

Well that's a lot of stuff! But it is not to big for God! PRAY that
almighty God's hands are all over this entire process. That The holy
spirit guides every small step, so it all will follow the path of God's
perfect plan for Beth's life and health. Pray for Dave at this single
juncture in her treatment process. That he may have peace, and clam
and That blessed Assurance.

On another note, The Beguerie home is undergoing renovations in
anticipation of Beth coming home. She will be in hospital for a long
stay. But after she comes home she can not have any contamination.
Like the mold they discovered in their bathroom walls. So they have
workmen there now gutting the bathroom down to the bare studs, with no
facilities actually working at the moment. What fun! Beth's parents
R.V. is parked in the drive and everyone goes out there for facilities.

I say this because the family even now are looking forward to the day
when Beth comes home, and already preparing for it. We too are part of
that process, as we pray for it!

Thanks and keep praying!

Larry
