Herrmann is another one of my favorites. I finally added the original soundtrack to Psycho to my collection. And Cape Fear is on it's way as well.
You're familiar with Shunsuke Kikuchi also? I think that he is Japan's finest composer. I find his music to be quite addictive. Unfortunately, since my money is somewhat limited, I've had to switch gears from collecting Kikuchi to collecting Herrmann and Schifrin at the moment.
Is there anything that you're currently looking for? If there's something you need for colIection I'd be glad to keep an eye out for you.
At the moment, there's a few soundtracks that I'm looking for. Unfortunately, not all of them have been officially released but here's what I need:
The Black Hole(complete soundtrack including cues not included on the LP)
Shunsuke Kikuchi: Getter Robo G(complete soundtrack)
Charles Bernstein: Mr. Majestyk
Charles Bernstein: The Entity
Pino Donaggio: The Black Cat
Colin Towns: The Haunting of Julia(A.K.A. Full Circle complete soundtrack including cues not on the LP/CD releases)
Damnation Alley(if there's a better quality one that exists other than the bootleg CD minus the dialog and sound FX)
Armando Trovaioli: Una Magnum Special Per Tony Saitta
John Carpenter: Dark Star(minus the dialog and sound FX!)
And any unreleased Gil Melle soundtracks.
Actually this list is more than just a few and I'm sure I've forgotten a few titles that I'm looking for.
Anyway, it's a real pleasure to be talking to another true soundtrack collector.
Cheers. -Kevin

Hi Kevin,
thank you for having answered my letter, this means you're still interested in the survival of the group.
Like you I'm a dyed-in-the-wool enthusiast of movies and TV soundtracks and I own something nearer to 1,000 titles, being also a lover of old soundtracks (30's, 40's, etc.)
My favourite composers are the same as yours, plus Newman, Steiner, Rozsa, Korngold, North, Bernstein, Hermann, etc.etc.
I own some that are really rare and dificult to find, or at least cost a bundle to buy, like Debney's "Cutthroat Island".
The things is, that for every CD soundtrack I also have the film on DVD, so you can just imagine the space taken at home, with the great joy of my wife...
Cordially yours,
Rocco

Anyway, I'd like to assure you that at least speaking for myself, I'm quite the enthusiast of film/TV scores. I've collected at least 200-225 soundtracks on CD and LP.
So, to open up a serious thread here, who are some of your favorite composers?
To name a few of my favorites... Goldsmith, Morricone, Shunsuke Kikuchi, Richard Band and Schifrin.
Hopefully you'll stick around for a little while longer. Thanks for the post! I do think this group needed a wakeup call!

Rocco Loschiavo <roccoloschiavo@yahoo.com> wrote:This is a letter I should have written a year ago, but for several reasons of practical everyday life, was postponed until today.
Once upon a time this group, which I joined years ago, was made by and for real enthusiasts of movie music; they wrote, exchanging impressions and comments about any old or new film and helped each other to find rare soundtracks and so on.
There was a gentleman, by the name of Peter Morrison, that answered each and any letter addressed to the group, adding his often acute comments on any subject and stimulating the others to add their own.
I don't know what really happened while I wasn't looking, but Morrison is no more there, the Owner is a nameless, sexless, ageless person (I hope it is a person) and the moderator is a Ms. Helen, who doesn't moderate anything, because there's just nothing to moderate, except perhaps the crowd trying to post more and more spam.
Nobody posts anymore a true letter about any subject and the only three times it happened, with three guys asking for help in finding films and soundtracks and I offered at once my help, they never answered with a thank you or even a f**k you...Just a cosmic silence.
If this is going to be the normal way of being for this group, I think I'll leave it, even if, I'm sure of it, nobody will notice or give a damn about it.
Greetings to all ghosts,
Rocco
