The show last night was great! Rex Allen Jr. opened the show... he
is quite a character, and quite the performer! Then LeRoy Van
Dyke... he produced the show with his wife Gladys.
Jimmy Fortune was next. Wow... what a voice! I predict he is going
places with his solo career! Then a quick intermission, and Tommy
Cash was up. Then, yay, it was Helen's turn. I swear she hasn't
aged a bit since I saw her last, and that has got to be at least 5
years ago. She just gets more beautiful every time I see her. She
sang 'To Daddy', 'Old Friends', and I'll probably mess up the name of
this one 'Long Gone Lonesome Blues' or something very close to that!
LOL
~*~ Helen, by the way, was the only one who stuck to her aloted
time! All the hairy-legged old men went OVER! ~*~
She then introduced Jim Ed... let's see, he sang 'Pop A Top', 'The
Old Lamplighter', The Three Bells' and this isn't the name of it, but
it's what I call it, 'Suddenly'. Then he brought Helen back out and
they sang 'Fools', 'I Don't Want to Have to Marry You', 'Morning
Comes too Early', and 'You Don't Bring Me Flowers'.
The forecast called for rain all day, and it held off for the whole
show. Unfortunately, it did not hold off until the autograph line
was finished. But, I do believe everyone stayed out in the showers
and signed until the crowd had gone.
What a great evening of honest traditional country music! Wish the
Opry would take a cue from what some of the county fairs are putting
on for talent. The crowd last night proved that folks still love
that good old traditional country music! There's nothing like it
today... REALLY!
Until next time...
Smiles!
Susan :o)
ps- tell your friends about this club... let's get some more
members, and start chatting some!
btw-I'll post some photos from the Boone County Fair over the
weekend. I'm going to be seeing Jim Ed again on Saturday night.
Only wish Helen was going to be with him on that show! sigh!!
