Someone mentioned "Life from a Window" as a
favorite. I thought I was the only one... But has anyone
ever read Adrian Henri's poetry? It was a big
influence, especially on the second album. For example,
"Tonight at Noon" is the title of a Henri poem, althoug
the words come from another poem whose title I can't
remember right now. I once asked Paul after a Gift period
concert near Montreal, Canada if he had met Henri; he
hadn't. Curiously enough, many years later, I found
myself sitting next to Adrian Henri for lunch. It was in
a big university dining hall. He asked me to pass
him the salt. I didn't have the courage to ask him if
he had ever met Weller because I couldn't think of
an introduction better than 'you used to be my
favorite poet'. And to be honest I was only pretty sure
(rather than positive) that it was him. Life's strange
innit?
