Jamiroquai's Jay Kay releases his new single, I'm
In The Mood For Love this week. The cosmic star says
the song, a duet with Jools Holland, will probably
his last collaboration. 'Apart from Jools, I don't
really enjoy working with other people. There's always a
dispute about the royalties and stuff and it's more
hassle than it's worth,' says the singer. 'It's like all
that stuff that Guru does on those Jazzmatazz albums.
He takes the majority cut on royalties and doesn't
leave the artists with much. I was planning to work
with Bootsy Collins (ex-Parliament bassist) but he was
very strange. We were recording some stuff in the
studio but Bootsy and his mate just walked around all
day taking notes. It seemed like he was trying to
steal all my hooks and little tricks so I thought, 'Sod
this!' and knocked it on the head.'<br><br>Jamiroquai
release their new single, Little L, in July. 'It's about
not getting enough love from your woman,' says Jay
although he refused to confirm whether it was about his
girlfriend, TV presenter Denise Van Outen. A new album, 2001
- A Funk Odyssey, has a tentative release date in
September. 'We've tried some new things on there. It's a bit
more contemporary. One half will be full-on dancefloor
stuff and the second half will probably be laidback
tunes. I'm also working on a funky remake of Beethoven's
7th Symphony. I figure it won't cost much to use the
samples as he's been dead for 100 years.' <br><br>(6
