Miguel Andrade says

John Williams was born in 1932, and his first classic composition, a piano
sonata, dates from 1951. His first recorded compsition, a short jazzy piece
for solo piano and jazz combo, called Hello, was released on his debut album
"John Towner Touch" in 1957.

Me:
Sounds about right... He did start as a jazz player in New York before he
composed for films.
