I always felt it is important to stress the two beats
of the 6/8 for the fugue. 3/4 is not the same as 6/8
in music.

But actually, nowadays I, never-the-less, play the
eighth bar of the theme as a "hemiola" (i.e. 3/4).
Everytime the subject is played, of course.

That is the most important insight I feel I have gained
when studying this piece. And it helps to get the
listener and player to feel The Joy Of Organplaying :-)


(Is "hemiola" an English word?? "Hämiol" in German,
I believe)

Thanks, The fugue tempo is critical for a 2 in-the-bar 6/8. I can take the tempo to quaver = 190 but will it take it to the gigue tempo? Very 'detache'...
