Hi, Gang.
The Bone Doctor here with some news.
Today, I took possession of my very own theatre organ. What is it,
you ask? Well, let's see...
Full size antique white horseshoe console.
Two 61 AGO note manuals and 25 note pedal clavier.
Single swell shoe, no toe studs or thumb pistons.
Built-in audio with Leslie, no drum machine.
Music rack and full size dog leg bench.
The word "Conn" is on the bolster end block.
It looks to be a late 60's or early 70's model.
It cost me a small CRT computer monitor in trade.
Can you beet that? What's the catch?
It is very sick. It needs cleaned and tuned.
The machine had not saw power in twenty years plus.
I turned it on, expecting the place to burn down but...
It fired up and everything worked but the Leslie and Tibias.
I noticed a stop tongue broken in the Accompaniment that controls the
8' Diapason. The console is in good shape, just dirty.
I am thinking that I shall clean everything that has a plug, socket,
switch, or contact including the keyer rods under the manuals and
such with pure isopropanol and/or De-oxid (metal only with the De-
oxid) to see what really works and what needs fixin'. The pedals are
way out of tune but those are easy enough to straighten out.
I hope the Leslie amp ain't shot, 'cause I will have to make one if
it is. These can have new components put on the existing boards,
usually. No problem, just hard work.
When I get it going, I plan to wire MIDI in there to control the
MidiTzer. Yummy. I will have something to get my chops back on. These
danged synthesizers will ruin an organ player sometimes. I have been
away from the console far too long. Yes, I get to play organs at
churches but there is nothing like having one that you can play
anytime you want. A body needs to play every day to get good. And so
I shall, after I get it going.
If anyone has any insight into this, jump in, 'cause I am afraid I
will need all the help I can get. I thank y'all.
God bless everyone and happy playing.
