Hi there folks,

Kristin Mueller's CD has been attracting enthusiastic
support around the globe with radioplay and reviews
from Germany, Belgium and Netherlands.

We are sorry to announce the cancellation of the
October 26th show of Gloria Deluxe at the Symphony
Space. However, a new show has been added which
features Kristin in duo mode with Austin Hughes of the
M. Shanghai String Band. They will each share in
performing eachothers solo work. These shows are a
real treat not to be missed, so pencil it into your
palm pilots or scribble it onto your jeans.

20th (Fri) - kristin:austin (duo with Kristin Mueller
and Austin Hughes of the M. Shanghai String Band)
performs at 8pm at the striking and unusual venue
known as The Union Pool (484 Union Ave near Meeker St,
Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY). Entry is TBA ($5-7 is
most likely). 1-718-609-0484

Your kindly updater monkey,
Jesse

ps - I wish I could say that I'll meet you there at
the kristin:austin show, but I'll be in the UK for the
whole month of October. Instead of Kristin's show,
I'll have to choose among the various activism related
events coming up soon such as the Anarchist Bookfair
(21st), the Fairford Coach Case (23-25), Critical Mass
London (27), No More Fallujahs (28-29) and the
National Climate March (4 Nov).

Hey all you cowgals and cowboys,

Here's the Mid-August update. If you live in NYC,
you're in luck as Kristin will be playing solo work at
an August show today (16th of August) and another show
in September. The album will be released on the 2nd
of September and you can now visit her website to see
the cover art. There's info about the shows and more
below.

UPCOMING SHOWS

In case you have become absent-minded from all this
hot weather, here's a reminder about the show
tommorow.

Kristin:Austin will be onstage at 9pm tomorrow
(Wednesday 16th of August) at The Living Room. They
will be followed by the marvelous Matty Charles at
10pm and finally Gloria Deluxe (with Kristin playing
drums at 11pm).

Additionally, Kristin plays drums at Clare Burson's
Tuesday night shows during her month-of-August
residency at The Living Room.

The next opportunity to hear Kristin perform her solo
work will be on September 6th (Wed) when Kristin
Mueller performs at Club Midway (25 Avenue B, in
Manhattan between 2nd and 3rd St).

KRISTIN INTERVIEWED IN GO NYC

Since it's August, you can now hunt down a free copy
of GO NYC which features an interview with Kristin in
it's feature article "Out Artists on the Rise: 16
unique out musicians on the brink of stardom"
http://www.gonycmagazine.com/feature1f.html

In case you can't track down the article, I'm
providing the text at the end of this e-mail (see
bottom).

SHAMELESS PLUG

Finally, here's a small plug not from Kristin herself,
but instead from me (Jesse) the person who updates the
website and maintains the updater. Check out Katell
Keineg's show this Friday (18th) at the Bowery
Ballroom (tickets are $15).

Katell sold out 3 shows at The Living Room last month.
My 3 favourite performers today are Kristin Mueller,
Katell Keineg, and the Hank Dogs. If you like
Kristin's music, I think there's a strong chance that
you would Katell and the Hank Dogs.

That's it for now. The GO NYC article is below.

All the very best,
Jesse the updater

---ARTICLE STARTS HERE----
(note: this is hand typed out from page 24 of GO NYC -
August 2006).

KRISTIN MUELLER

"I've never really classified myself as an out
musician, rather as a musician who's out. Living in a
city like New York has afforded me the lucky
opportunity to work in a creative environment where
who I'm sleeping with is irrelevant compared to what I
bring as an artist musically." and what Kristin
Mueller brings is a lush country sound that can be
heard on her debut album "Ports of Call". Mueller's
work has earned her critical acclaim from "The Village
Voice" and "Time Out New York" and her song "Finding a
Woman" is featured in the Sundance award-winning film
"What Alice Found".

Originally from New Jersey, Mueller played in clubs
throughout the Northeast and eventually landed in New
York City. In addition to her own music she divides
her time drumming for the Caulfield Sisters, Gloria
Deluxe, and Clare Burson, and playing banjo for M
Shanghai String Band. "Most of the musicians I play
with these days have become some of my closest
friends. Their immense talents challenge me as a
player and a person."

Mueller is also the engineer and co-host of WFMU's
"Old Time New" with Noah Zark. She can be seen every
Tuesday in August at the Living Room with Clare Burson
and will be showcasing her own material at Club Midway
on Sept 6th. Check her website kristinmueller.com for
updates. - SD

Hi all you folks on the updater,

I know that I said I wouldn't send out too many
updates in anticipation of the new album, but I've
just been listening to it, and I was so thrilled that
I decided to put some more samples from the album up
on the website. Plus, today is exactly a month until
Kristin's solo album "Ports of Call" will be released
on September 2nd by Dren Records.

"It's absolutely beautiful!" (says myself)

To wet your appetites, I put up downloadable MP3
excerpts from three songs off the new album, and
posted their full lyrics. I tried to edit them so
they'll make good listening and you might even wish to
load them onto your MP3 players even though the full
length versions will be even better.

The full length 2003 version of "Finding A Woman" is
still available to download at the website, but you'll
have to get the album to compare it to the new 2006
version.

To see the new album art when it gets uploaded toward
the end of the month, visit
http://www.kristinmueller.com/portsofcall which will
feature info all about the new album.

SURPRISE CONTEST!

As previously proposed, we've decided to have a
contest and the winner gets two free copies of the new
album - each with hand decorations and signature by
Kristin Mueller herself. One copy is for the winner,
and the second copy is for the winner to give to a
very interesting person that they know.

The question is -

"Who is the most interesting person that you know
personally that you would like to give the album to as
a gift?"

To answer the question, please describe the person,
how say you know them and why you think it would be
interesting to give them the album.

The questions all need to be e-mailed in by the final
day of August 2006. The winner will be the person
whose choice sounds most interesting. We'll send out
the notification of who won by the album release date
- September 2nd.

Send your answers to thedishbench (at) yahoo (dot) com
and use the subject line "kristin's contest".

That's all for now. Next update is probably going to
be during the final week of August when we'll get the
album artwork up on the website and give you better
details of where and how to get copies of the new
album.

With kindness, frivolity and reverance,
Jesse the updater.

PS - Finally - a correction of the name of the new
WFMU show - it's called "Old Time New" and it's on on
the final Friday of every month (6am-9am). It's only
available via webcast, and it features Kristin Mueller
& Noah Uman as hosts and includes a Matty Charles live
performance on the last Friday of every month via web
stream only and if you don't get up that early, you
can always catch the show on the webstream and show
archive.
http://wfmu.org/playlists/ON

PPS - This is a hot tip from myself the person writing
the Updater - if you are free on the 18th of August,
please consider seeing Katell Keineg play at the
Bowery Ballroom. She had a series of sold out shows
in July, and she's returning to New York for this
single show, so if you decide to watch the show,
please buy a ticket early.

This update is a reminder about the two upcomming
Kristin:Austin shows, and a date for Kristin's solo
album release. Sorry that the following text is
shamelessly grabbed from the news section on Kristin's
website. We usually try to send out something
slightly different to updater subscribers, but...
it's summer and the city is hot, so you get a little
recycled news here.

The next chance to check out the new "Kristin:Austin"
duo is Sunday the 30th of July, but if that's too
short notice, you still have time to drop everything
and get down to the show on Wednesday the 16th of
August.

Another reason to go to the 16 August show is you'll
get to see Kristin playing drums in Gloria Deluxe. As
if that wasn't enough, you'll get the chance to see
the highly recommended Matty Charles. And if you don't
know what Matty Charles sounds like, why not listen to
the new WFMU show Flaming Robot's of Love (Noah Zark
style) on Friday (6am-9am). This show will feature a
Matty Charles live performance on the last Friday of
every month and if you don't get up that early, you
can always catch the show on the www.wfmu.org
webstream and show archive.

Finally, here's the news you've been waiting for...
the Kristin Mueller (solo) album release date is
officially September 2nd through Dren Records. I don't
want to spoil the excitement by giving it all away
now, but rest assured, you'll get preview samples from
several more songs before the release date, and
possibly a peak at the beatiful artwork too. Finally,
when the album is released, it will be available
through Amazon.com, CD Baby and I-Tunes. Who knows, we
might even throw in a contest for good measure!

http://www.kristinmueller.com

The next update is due sometime mid-August when we'll
have uploaded various song samples, and possibly have
a preview of the album artwork.

Very best wishes,
Jesse (the updater)

ps- Don't forget to pick up your free copy of "GoNYC"
in August and read Kristin's interview!

The year 2006 gets off to a busy start. Mark your calendar because
Kristin will be playing gigs on the 9th (thurs) and 11th (sat) of
March, and you won't want to miss them. Details follow.

Kristin will be performing her solo music on Saturday the 11th of
March at 9pm at the Brooklyn venue Freddy's Bar & Backroom
(http://www.freddysbackroom.com). Kristin will be followed by Jan
Bell at 10pm and M SHANGHAI String Band
(http://www.mshanghaistringband.com) at 11pm. Congratulations,
Kristin is putting YOU personally on the GUEST LIST!!! Actually,
that's not exactly true, but you can still get in for free, since
there is no charge for entry. Yes, there is still something available
for free in New York City)

The remarkable singer songwriter Clare Burson (www.clareburson.com)
now features Kristin playing drums at the full band gigs. There have
been some memorable gigs so far including one at Pete's Candy Store
on the 15th of December 2005 and The Living Room on the 17th of
February 2006. Find out what all the fuss is about! Set the evening
aside the Thursday the 9th of March 2006 for the Clare Burson gig at
Mo Pitkins (http://www.mopitkins.com)!

A much anticipated solo album by Kristin has now been recorded, and
is extimated to be released by mid-2006. The website has a minute-
long excerpt of the song "Home" from the upcoming album. You can
download the 1.5 MB excerpt of "Home" on the website at
http://www.kristinmueller.com/music

A compilation of Ricky Nelson covers songs to be released through
Waxfruit.org will feature Kristin playing drums on at least one track
by Jeff Mellin.

Gloria Deluxe has already started work on the part II of the trilogy
which started with the acclaimed operetta Accidental Nostalgia. Songs
from part II (called "Must Don't Whip 'Um") were performed at St
Ann's Warehouse on the 7th of December 2005. There is no date set
for the full production of "Must Don't Whip 'Um", but it could debut
in the next year or two.

Caulfield Sisters got a mention in USA Today on the 30th of November
2005 with their verion of The Smiths' song Please Please Please Let
Me Get What I Want (from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack). This song
was mentioned in USA Today's article about the recent album High
School Reunion: A Tribute to Those Great '80s Films (available from
American Laundromat Records).

That's all the news for now.

Cheers,
Jesse
(web-editor and news list postings)

ps- This is a sad note. A friend of mine knew the remarkable drummer
George Javori who died in late 2005. He was in his early 30s but had
