Metal Blade Records has set an October 13 release date for the reissues of KING
DIAMOND's "The Spider's Lullabye" and "The Graveyard" albums. Both LPs were
remastered by KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque and each title includes
bonus material that purchasers will be able to obtain digitally. Both "The
Spider's Lullabye" and "The Graveyard" will include live "bootleg" versions
(with video footage) of the following songs: "The Spider's Lullabye" from the
album of the same name, and "Trick Or Treat" and "Up From The Grave" from "The
Graveyard".

"Andy La Rocque re-mastered both records and you can really hear more details
and sounds that I remember recording but didn't come through in the original
mastering," said KING DIAMOND singer/namesake. "The records have much more
bottom end this time around. There's even more details and clarity than the
original version and you'll hear things you've never heard before in both
releases. Andy did a great job re-mastering and improving these albums above and
beyond my expectations. The artwork has also been completely redone for
'Spiders' and 'Graveyard' and is just amazing. I did not expect them to come out
this good and am just completely thrilled with the result.

"We originally were going to include bonus footage on the albums as a CD-ROM,
but the sound and video quality was going to suffer tremendously and that is
just unacceptable. Instead, the bonus footage is going to be available for
download to those who purchase the albums. The video downloads will be available
in multiple formats so everyone can see them."

It has also been confirmed that two KING DIAMOND songs — "Welcome Home" and
"Cremation" — will appear on the upcoming Brόtal Legend videogame, scheduled for
release in October.

Both KING DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE have worked out a deal with C1rca Shoes to
have featured artwork on several of their sneakers, the first pair set to arrive
in October 2009 with more to follow in 2010.

Expect the first-ever DVD from KING DIAMOND as early as the winter 2009 or as
late as early 2010.

Stay Heavy!

I have a show from Montreal that is 2003, I think it's 2003 anyway, I'd have to
go get the dvd to be sure. It's good quality bootleg but you cannot see part of
the stage due to a column blocking part of the taper's camera view. If it's the
same as this, it's not a proshot, not even an attempt to imitate one.

Damn, I'm half asleep over here and sending messages to the wrong place. Anyway,
if you saw this on the other list, just ignore this post.

I'm making an addtion to this post I just made. The record I decided to go ahead
and purchase. After hearing the songs you uploaded and seeing Hellsheadbangers
had a "Nuns Have No Fun" back patch, I went ahead and threw down money for it.
Since I was already getting the back patch and this thing has my favorite song
(Devil Eyes), I had to get it.

If anyone is interested, Hellsheadbangers still has some copies of this vinyl
and the Nuns Have No Fun back patch. The vinyl turned out to be 35 and the patch
is 10 bucks. For shipping and all, it come to 50.08. Ouch I am thinking but at
least I'll be happy when I get paid again and knowing I didn't let this stuff
slip away from me.

Thank you for sharing this. It sounds pretty good, better then I was
expecting. Can you describe the packaging with this? I mean is the packaging of
this vinyl worth 30 bucks (plus shipping)? The audio sounds good but I wonder
how nice is the rest. The Spider's Lullabye demo vinyl was worth the 18 or so
bucks it ended up costing me. If anything, just for what it is and the
packaging.

Hail to all of you,

I guess it's high time for a new update.
As you will see, we've been staying very busy lately. We've had to put the KD/MF
DVD projects on the backburner for a little while, but we're back working on
that full power now. We'll get to the DVDs at the end of this update.

As some of you might already know, the 2 re-recorded Mercyful Fate songs "Evil"
and "Curse Of The Pharaohs" will be available for download this coming Tuesday
July 14 on iTunes, etc. through Metal Blade.
Both "Evil" and "Curse Of The Pharaohs" was mastered by Andy LaRocque, which
makes "Evil" slightly different sounding from the version you can find on Guitar
Hero: Metallica, which was mastered through Activision.
These 2 songs will also be available as limited edition 12 inch vinyl picture
disk from both Metal Blade and Massacre Records. We were so fortunate to be
granted a license by Activision to use a King Diamond image from the Guitar
Hero: Metallica videogame on the front, including the use of the Guitar Hero
logo. Also Metallica have been very gracious and given us a license to use their
logo on the front.
(for images, see ((due to Myspace's link limitations, please copy and paste the

The 4 remastered King Diamond albums "Spider's Lullabye", "The Graveyard",
"Voodoo", and "House Of God", all mastered by Andy LaRocque now have tentative
release dates.
If all goes well, the 2 first will be released on October 13th, and the two last
on November 10th.
The bonus tracks have finally been delivered to the record labels. They will be
live versions (with video footage) of the following songs: "The Spiders
Lullabye"; "Trick Or Treat + Up From The Grave";"Voodoo"; "House Of God".
Cover artwork will be revamped by Metal Blade's art designer Brian Ames.

It has also been confirmed that the 2 King Diamond songs "Welcome Home" and
"Cremation" will appear on the upcoming videogame BRUTAL LEGEND scheduled for
release in October.

Both King Diamond and Mercyful Fate have worked out a deal with C1rca Shoes to
have featured artwork on several of their sneakers.
At this point, C1rca has mentioned a possible release of an "Abigail" sneaker
and a "Don't Break The Oath" sneaker for this fall.
Further approved designs for possible spring 2010 release is "Them" and "9".

Regarding the King Diamond double DVD of old improved private video recordings,
it should be, if no other unforeseen problems smack us in the face, be ready for
release on Halloween or shortly thereafter.
I've noticed that some of you have wondered what kind of system we're working
on, and also why it has taken this long. Part of it is, as you can see, because
we have had other things that had to be dealt with along the way. The other part
is a lot of unforeseen problems that has kept on messing with the progress.
The software we use is Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on a Gateway 2.7 GHz Quad Core
computer with 6 Gigabytes of RAM, 650 GB HDD, an Nvidia GeFore 9800GT, and this
far far exceeds the highest system requirements of the Premiere Pro program.
Just to give you an idea of some of the technical problems we've ran into, right
off the bat we had problems in the transfer of the source footage into the
computer. The old footage was originally recorded on handheld video 8 camcorders
with tape. They were transferred to DVD for storage and preservation so many
years ago I don't even know when, but a long time ago. At some point, 5 or 6
years ago, I got curious and wanted to take a look at all the material we were
in possession of, and the guy that was holding onto all our recordings made some
copies for me that I was supposed to be able to see on my NTSC DVD player.
When I received them, there was no picture, and horrible sound. Obviously
something went wrong and Ole Bang then acquired a system with which he then
started to convert all our PAL footage to NTSC. I got those a couple of years
ago and they played perfect on my DVD player. That's about the time that the
initial idea for this never before seen footage to be made available came about.
After long long time of negotiations, we finally got to the point where it made
sense to go get the equipment and start working on the material. So here is the
first problem.
We started out by importing footage into Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and started an
NTSC project. All the footage was TALL and the video play extremely choppy. The
source video showed up with a frame rate of 25 which is European PAL and simply
couldn't be transferred properly to the NTSC standard of 29.97 frames per
second.
We contacted Adobe to try and figure out what we were doing wrong, and when we
told them that I could play the source DVDs fine on my DVD player and gave them
the source specifications (frames per second and the source aspect ratio), they
told us that they had never heard of any source footage with those
specifications and that I must have a real good DVD player since it could make
up for these very odd specifications. They practically told us that it was
impossible to do an NTSC project with the strange source video we have, and
suggested that we try to convert our already strange video (which is not
straight PAL specifications either, it was a bit of both) into straight PAL
specifications during the transfer from the original source DVDs into the
computer. Then start a PAL project with that.
Solving this first problem took longer than days, more like weeks, since you
try all kinds of things yourself first because you think you're the one who
doesn't understand what's going on and you keep trying.
Then you give up and call the experts and then it's "try this" No. "Try that".
No. "What about this?" "Wait, I see normal people, but the picture is choppy!"
"Then what about doing this? What does this do?" And finally, yes, we got
something here.
This is probably extremely boring but I really wanna try and emphasize that
we're not just sat on our lazy asses but have actually run into many of these
kind of problems.
I'll skip all the in-between, and tell you about the last wall we ran into.
Transferring bonus footage for the 4 KD remasters, the DVD converter we had used
practically just ceased to exist. We must have overlooked some of the small
print when we downloaded this one which worked really really good, and now we
sat with a message saying it expired. Our mistake. We did find the DVD
conversion program again, but could not reinstall it since it was registered in
our computers brain as being expired. Then we started searching for another
similar conversion program, and found one which we now can make work, but at
first we wasted a couple of days trying to find out why everything we brought
into the computer had no sound with it, and the picture was tall again. For some
reason the program would not bring MP3 files into Premiere Pro CS3, which makes
no sense. But by trial and error, we found some settings through AC3, which is
my understanding relates to surround sound, which is certainly not what we had,
but somewhere else in this converter program we found a way to make the AC3 only
run through 2 channels.
Sound problem solved.
With this new program it was not obvious what the source aspect ratios were, and
we had to go through a couple of menus to find it, and find the place where we
could change it. For those of you who know about aspect ratios, one source disk
was 702x576, another was 704x576 etc. etc. (normal PAL should be 720x576). I was
not there when all this footage originally was transferred to DVDs but something
obviously went wrong. This whole DVD adventure has been like picking something
that's wrong apart and then try to put it back again in a form where it would
play as if it was right.

To be quite honest, I'm amazed that I have not given up this DVD project yet. I
don't think I can even count how many times I have said "That's it. I fucking
had enough of this shit, this piss just doesn't want to work".
But in the end I'm sure it will all have been worth the while. You guys really
need to see some of this stuff. It certainly has given me a lot of great
entertainment to see again.

I WANNA THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PATIENCE WITH THESE DVD PROJECTS (the Mercyful
Fate should be ready by Christmas or very early next year).

Stay Heavy,

King Diamond

As many fans already know, MERCYFUL FATE's "Evil" is featured as a playable
track on "Guitar Hero: Metallica". The band re-recorded "Evil" and "Curse Of The
Pharaohs" specifically for the game because the original masters no longer
exist. Now the group is making both cuts available to fans to purchase on
iTunes!

These versions feature four of the five original MERCYFUL FATE members (vocalist
King Diamond, guitarist Hank Shermann, guitarist Michael Denner and bassist Timi
Hansen) along with the band's current drummer, Bjarne T. Holm. The recording
session was overseen by Hank Shermann at Earplug Studio in Copenhagen, Denmark;
after which King Diamond laid down his vocals at Nomad Recording Studio in
Dallas, Texas, and mixed the song with J.T. Longoria.

KING DIAMOND frontman/namesake comments: "It was a lot of fun to get a chance to
re-record 'Evil' and 'Curse of the Pharaohs' from our 1983 'Melissa' album. It
was cool to go into the studio and try to figure out all the various harmony
vocals and see if I could still do them. The other guys had a lot of fun with
this project too, and the whole thing turned out much better than we could have
hoped for. Everyone nailed their performances and Hank's solos were even
slightly improved. Everything is right where it should be and with a much better
sound! The 'feel' was there and all of the guys — Hank, Denner, Timi and Bjarne
are all naturals. The versions that will be up on iTunes were mastered by Andy
LaRocque and even with a 2009 sound, there's no doubt that these songs were
recorded by MERCYFUL FATE!"

"Evil" and "Curse Of The Pharaohs" will be available for fans to purchase
digitally on July 14. A special edition picture disc vinyl single will be
available on September 1.

Yeah, this is fun as hell!
F'n love this game!
On the medium diff settings now.
Got King unlocked, but, he plays guitar in the bands after that..??
looks damn cool, that for sure!

My 14 year old son is sure handing my ass to me I tell ya what!
but he's got GH experience.

"Evil" sounds like it's sung kinda softer?

A bonus feature vid, of the KD with Metallica at the Dallas show
is a feature I kinda dig too!

Never thought I'd see the day again, when I had something good
  to say about "Meat-tail-licash"
but now I can say thanks for adding / helping out King !!!

FAVE TRACK so far on this is "Albatross" from COC
might be tied with "Tuesdays Gone" ,,,tough call!

P.S. I gotta hunch, (not a turky smuggling hunch)
but a real hunch,, we'll see a Guitar Hero -- Ozzy-- next!

cheers!

Ha! I didn't know Hank and Michael were actually the same chick!

But yeah, not a bad version. The solos are a bit dumbed-down for your typical
GH slackers. Hopefully we'll be able to hear the real song without the stupid
GH sound effects.

Since this was going to be for Guitar Hero we had to have a separate track

Carlos Ramirez of IGN recently conducted an interview with Danish heavy metal
singer King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND) about his involvement with the
forthcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica game. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

IGN: First off, I have to ask you, did you ever play Guitar Hero or any other
video games before you were approached to do this project?

King Diamond: I actually do play games. It's a great way to relax and not think
about everything else going on in your life. I love playing the military type of
games. I'm into the ones where you have a mission to run and all of that kind of
stuff. Games like Fallout are great. You just get lost in it. But now with this
METALLICA game, I have to really start getting good. The company did a great job
with it and I know everyone who already plays Guitar Hero will really like it.

IGN: Throughout your career, metal heads have tried to imitate your high pitched
singing voice and the results have been disastrous. Now with this game coming
out, I'm sure that won't change.

Diamond: [Laughing] Yeah I have heard that through the years from fans and some
parents even. I know people get together and have parties at bars and at home
playing Guitar Hero so it will be fun to hear them singing along to these
tracks.

IGN: One of the things you recorded for the game was the song "Evil" which you
first laid down in 1983. Did you do anything different in the tracking?

Diamond: Well, the main thing about that is besides the drummer, we have all of
the same people playing on this new version that were there for the original
sessions. It was very interesting going back to listen to the records and trying
to figure out all of the vocal layering and harmonies. We couldn't find the
original tapes anywhere so we started over. Hank (Shermann) might have changed a
few things in the guitar solos but they were just improvement types of things.

was the technical part of it. Since this was going to be for Guitar Hero we had
to have a separate track for every instrument. There was no panning or that kind
of stuff going on. I think these new versions came out really great. Once the
game is out, I know that the songs will be available on iTunes too.

IGN: How do you feel about video game culture and its impact on music? They are
musicians who think it has taken away attention from it and made younger people
lazier but some think it has opened up new avenues for their music to get out
there.

Diamond: I've always said that video games are positive thing. Like I was saying
before, I find it as a really relaxing thing. It's a nice way to escape for a
while. For the musicians who are against the whole thing, I think they are
crazy. Look how many times people are exposed to music they like that they
normally wouldn't have been exposed to. Video games have opened up so many
people onto cool bands so I have never understood the argument against them.

Destructoid recently conducted an interview with Danish heavy metal singer King
Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND) about his involvement with the forthcoming
"Guitar Hero: Metallica" game. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Destructoid: I went to see "Guitar Hero" a few weeks ago and I spoke to a
[Neversoft] developer and he said you hurt your back. Are you doing alright?

King Diamond: Yeah, it's getting better and better, you know? It's a herniated
disc in the lower spine. It's been over a year-and-a-half now, almost two years
ago. It was so bad in the beginning that I couldn't sit for the first year. So I
stood up for the first year after I got the injury. I had to eat my dinner
standing everyday, you know? It definitely sidelined us for a while. We've been
able to do some other things and pick up everything, you know, without being out
touring. I expect us to be out at sometime next year. In the meantime we've had
a lot of projects to stay busy with. It's been good. No lack of fan support
there, and we have the best fans you can dream of. They're all there,
anticipating whatever is coming. Now the next thing that here is, of course,
"Guitar Hero". There's two songs we recorded actually, for [Activision] to pick
between. So there's one more song — there will be others eventually — after the
game is out, they'll be available at iTunes and stuff like that, you know. The
song "Evil" and "Curse of the Pharoahs". The same lineup, we did two songs so
they could choose between. They chose "Evil", probably because it has, I think
it has, more playability with a videogame. We've done a lot of stuff. I'm
working presently on some old, old footage, old private recordings of both KING
DIAMOND and MERCYFUL FATE that's going to be released — KING DIAMOND is going to
be a double-DVD set. Old, rare stuff you know? And the same with MERCYFUL FATE.
There might even be a three-disc MERCYFUL FATE. We'll see how much material is
good enough to put on. And that's mainly for the fans, there's stuff from
MERCYFUL FATE before we even got signed.

Destructoid: So, are you doing any downloadable content?

King Diamond: No, no — we did two songs, when Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer]
called me you know, when he invited us to be a part of it he suggested either
"Evil" or "Curse of the Pharoahs". Then we started looking for the masters. They
were nowhere to be found. I was thinking, "Oh god, can't be true. We're going to
miss out on such a great opportunity." So I talked to the other guys, and it
turned out to be a re-recording by four out of five original members. Otherwise,
it's all the old guys that did that song the first time 25 years ago. We went in
and re-recorded them and they sounded so much better. [laughs] But they stay
totally true to the original. The guitar solo by one guitarist, Michael Denner,
I would say is 100 percent identical. Every bend, every harmony that he puts on
a solo and stuff like that is identical. The other guitarist Hank Shermann, is
98 percent identical. Those two percent that aren't identical is because there
were so few notes back in the old solos, "gah, you can't do those, we have to do
it better." So we fixed those few things. Otherwise, of course, it's a more
in-your-face sound than on the old album. It was interesting also for me to go
in and do vocals and then go back and pick out some of these harmonies and say,
"What was it that I did back then?" And then recreate that stuff. So we did two
songs and they picked "Evil" for the game, you know. But I guess that those
songs, you'll be able to get them on iTunes and Amazon.com and stuff like that.
They'll be made available by the record label.

Destructoid: What do you think about "Guitar Hero" in general?

King Diamond: Well, I've heard nothing but good stuff, you know. I've heard so
much good for all the different versions that have come out. It's an honor to be
picked to be part of this, both by METALLICA and Activision. All the support and
all the stuff that has gone into it — it was a whole new experience because the
recording was different... I would say maybe not the recording, but we still had
to make sure we were recording in a specific way so make sure that they had
everything separated properly. But the mixing phase was really different because
each thing you record — snare drum, high hat, one guitar — each of these things
had to have their own stereo track. It's a weird thing. Normally you have a
snare, you just have it on a single track and then you pan it whenever you want
that track to line in the stereo picture. It's really different. They had to get
it into these, they called it "stem mixes" and I'm like, "hmm, okay, explain?"
Then we got explained. Then we did it. And we couldn't master it, because, that
of course, that's done by Activision because they have to make all the different
songs sound comparable to each other in volume and stuff. The version that go up
on iTunes and other places will, of course, be mastered by us like, you know, we
would normally do it. Very interesting to see these different ways they do it. I
remember after we attended one of the [inaudible] over at Activision. "Hey wait
a minute there is a" — I can't remember what solo it might be, it might be solo
2 or 3, by one of the guitarists in that song because it has a lot of solos in
it, they said — "there's a harmony there" — he recorded both a normal lead and
then he put a harmony on the second half of it — "we would like to have those
split up, too." We're like, "okay, we can do that." [Activision said] "Well then
people can play each solo in harmony for the playability of it." That was
interesting. Then it got even more interesting to see, when I was told, that I
could be an enemy, playable character in the game. That was weird, then seeing
the first draft that came. It was eerie, man, to see yourself that way. I've
seen fans draw pictures before, of course, I've seen footage of ourselves, you
know. This was so different. And then when you start seeing that character
created in such detail. The detail was absolutely mind-blowing. Each ring on my
fingers are on the right finger where they belong. I had to take photos of those
rings, close-ups, so they could totally make them correct. The eye necklace that
I'm wearing is perfect. Each button on the coat is there. Each bullet on the
bulletbelt is there. The leather pants, the leather vest, the old coat, the boot
— everything is just so detailed. Then when you see the character in that little
trailer they did when I saw the character move I was like, "Wow." And the one
thing you should keep in mind here, METALLICA was wearing these suits and
recorded like that. I couldn't do that. They asked me to come out in L.A. and do
that, but I couldn't sit on the plane at that time — I didn't have that option.
One of those situations like when we couldn't find the master tapes and I was
thinking, "Oh, don't let this be something that could obstruct the whole thing
from happening." But they're so skilled, they said "Well, we have good footage
of yourself and stuff. No problem, when can do it without those suits on." So
they got our latest KING DIAMOND video, "Give me your Soul" and I got some other
footage, you know, and some stills. Like I said they asked for close-ups of
rings, my necklace, and stuff like that. The coat was up in a certain way when I
took pictures from front to pack. They just work from that stuff, you know, and
create the character.

Can't wait to hear these two tracks. It will be interesting to hear what
20-plus years adds to (or detracts from) the originals.
And here's hoping the boys get a few residuals from the sales of this!

"As you all know, 80% of the original MERCYFUL FATE lineup (vocalist King
Diamond, guitarist Hank Shermann, guitarist Michael Denner and bassist Timi
Hansen) re-recorded with present MF drummer Bjarne T. Holm two ultimate
MERCY classics for the upcoming Metallica: Guitar Hero game. it's
interesting to know that those two songs ('Evil' and 'Curse Of The
Pharaohs') will be released on iTunes round mid-April. Also interesting to
know that Andy La Rocque [KING DIAMOND] mastered these two tracks for a
possible EP-picture, released by Metal Blade and Massacre.

Danish singer King Diamond (MERCYFUL FATE, KING DIAMOND) has issued the
following update:

"As you all know, 80% of the original MERCYFUL FATE lineup (vocalist King
Diamond, guitarist Hank Shermann, guitarist Michael Denner and bassist Timi
Hansen) re-recorded with present MF drummer Bjarne T. Holm two ultimate MERCY
classics for the upcoming Metallica: Guitar Hero game.

"For those who aren't into gaming, it's interesting to know that those two songs
('Evil' and 'Curse Of The Pharaohs') will be released on iTunes round mid-April.
Also interesting to know that Andy La Rocque [KING DIAMOND] mastered these two
tracks for a possible EP-picture, released by Metal Blade and Massacre.

"At this moment we are working on both MERCYFUL FATE and KING DIAMOND DVDs. Both
releases will contain two DVDs and it will be worth the wait as it has some very
exclusive content which surely no one outside the band has ever seen.

"We have been working on the following concerts. Please note content of the DVDs
might change. Concerts mentioned here might after all not appear on the DVD.

"MERCYFUL FATE DVD:

* Copenhagen 1982 with Benny Petersen
* Amsterdam Paradiso 1984
* Copenhagen 1984
* Reunion MF 1993
* Roskilde Festival 1994
* Copenhagen 1995

"KING DIAMOND DVD:

* Washington 1986
* 1987 supporting MOTΦRHEAD
* Show footage 1989 USA + backstage footage
* Full 1990 concert Spain Euro Conspiracy tour
* Behind the scenes 1990 Conspiracy
* Copenhagen concert in the park 1990 with 5 cameras

"Also remastered KING DIAMOND CDs are in the works. Those albums have, next to
the new masters, also one or two bonus video tracks. The bonus tracks shouldn't
be the reason to buy the albums. The sound is so much better than it ever was.
That should be reason to buy it. I know I would buy them.

"Remastered CDs released with video bonus footage (might be one or two songs)

* The Spider's Lullabye
* The Graveyard
* House Of God
* Voodoo

"This coming autumn might be the time to start writing new songs for KING
DIAMOND, and who knows if our involvement in Guitar Hero will raise our value to
the record labels enough for a new MERCYFUL FATE record."

Stay Heavy!
Phil

Guitar Hero is a ton of fun, I have II & III, great mixture of old classic hard
rock/metal songs and songs by newer metal bands. Rock Band on the other hand
seems to feature mostly pop rock music, probably due to the singing aspect and
that Guitar Hero already has the metal market cornered. I'll wait for this game
to become used so I can pick it up for under $30, I refuse to pay more then $30
for a Xbox360 game.
