Hi,
My daughter, she is 14, asked me a question the other day and I am not
sure how to answer it. She asked me "What makes a Christian Band
and/or Singer "Christian?". I am not sure how to answer. Just because
the members of the band is a Christian does not make them a "Christian
Band". Twenty-five years ago (has it been that long, OH I feel old)
when I started listening to Petra, it was easy to tell a Christian
group from a secular group. The secular groups sang about the glories
of s*x, dr*gs, and rock&roll. The Christian groups sang about
Salvation, Deliverance, and Freedom is Christ. With some of todays
crossover artist, it's not always easy to tell. I listen to RadioU
with my kids and some of the songs are the same ones I might hear on a
secular station. These songs are not necessarily bad, they will be
positive and uplifting songs, they don't always mention our Lord. A
good example is the group Showbread and their song "Mouth like a
Magazine". They are considered a Christian Group, and will be
performing at Spirit West Coast, but the song does not mention God.
So, can anyone help me answer this question? I want her to listen to
music that glorifies God. Thanks!!!
A bondservant of Jesus Christ,
Phillip Daniel
