Re: What makes a Christian Rock Band "Christian"??
Hello and God Bless everyone in the group.
What makes a Christian band 'Christian'?
I think that this has been brought up ever since bands were being
promoted as 'christian'. It is a tough one on the outside, but my
opinion is that their individual lives are to be examined, just as a
nother person said in a post. Our music is different than the other
music and our personal lives are to reflect the music the we promote.
In our church families, we are held accountable for our actions by our
brothers and sisters and I think that it is the same in the christina
music industry.
Of course, there are some labels out there who feel that image is more
important than the message and alot of bands follow their label on
that one. One nice thing about Petra that I have noticed since I have
been listening to them (over 20 years now) is that they have stayed
true to their beliefs and their faith in Him. Not that other bands
have not to their degree, it just seems to be more noticable with
Petra, that they are living what they are singing and playing about.
God Bless them and praise Him for His faithfulness to us on that.
I am a christian musician as well, but I mostly play instrumental
music. If you were to judge solely on the music, you may not know
that I was a christian. If you read the liner notes and look at my
life, you would certainly see that I get up everyday to walk with God.
Sure, I fail, but my daily actions and convictions for the Lord are
evident and I do my best as a living witness every day.
If we are to truly do what He asks, we have to be held accountable
moreso than in secular music. There are Christians who play secular
music as well, so how do we classify that? It is hard to say, I
guess, since it is not really our place to judge. That is His place.
But, in our fellowship with others, we can hold each other up as
brothers and sisters and that is where our accountability comes into
play.
Well, I hope that I stayed on track and helped a little bit.
Thank you and God Bless,
