Just dropping a quick note to let you know that S.O.B.'s has been on FIRE this week. It all started with one of the hottest hip-hop shows of the year (that's right, I said it, it's July and we're already making that claim for 2008!!), with WALE, BLU & EXILE, SKILLZ, TALIB KWELI, AOK and hosted by Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg and 88.9fm's Sucio Smash. Big up to all the perfomers, Digiwax, Flavorpill and everybody else who made this show happen.
"The show was held in the legendary nightclub S.O.B.βs which is like the last venue left standing from grimy NYC. If you are an underground emcee living in the tri-state area and you havenβt rocked the mic at S.O.B.βs or even been to show there for that matter please retire from the game." -Dallas Penn, XXLmag.com

To follow that concert, last night, spoken word icon and rap-meets-punk rock beast, SAUL WILLIAMS, came through and absolutely tore the roof off of S.O.B.'s. You hear his poems, you see him on TV, he's a calm dude, but see him on stage and he's only one thing: electrifying, RAW ENERGY!

What do these young people care about? What is their position on the education system, the criminal justice system, or even on access to adequate healthcare? If policy makers feel these young people do not care about these issues then they should pay more attention to what happens at the 2008 National Hip Hop Political Convention.", says Troy Nkrumah the NHHPC 2008 Convention Chairperson.

Frienemies:
This event will bring an underground event to crown 1 B-boy/1 B-girl as the BEST.Each one has to represent the most effectively throughout the day in a STRICTLY CIPHER driven event.
Frienemies is about representing in the ciphers.Every B-boy and B-girl is on their own!No preset battles. In the early to mid 80βs, breaking was at an all time high throughout the world.Crews were rolling thick and a lot of them were at peace. The only time they didn't get along was when it was time to battle in the club.Rock
Steady Crew and New York City Breakers were going to places like
Negril, The Roxy, Kennedy High School and other places where jams
were going down.No
one was worried about hurting someoneβs feelings or concerned with
battling their own friends, but rather battled with a fierce will to
win. We were all "FRIENEMIES". βFrienemiesβ is the place to battle that
person that you chill with on a regular basis and show him/her that
theyβre not as good as they brag about all the time.

If you would be so kind as to let people know about our Park Jams, the DMC DJ Battles we would greatly appreciate the reciprocation!
Co-founded by Jorge "Fabel" Pabon and Christie Z-Pabon, Tools of War was named with the idea that there are many "tools" one can use in competing or battling within Hip Hop culture: turntables, microphones, paint, one's body, and especially one's voice (and so on). Although the name may appear aggressive, the intent behind it's use is actually to inform and educate people regarding not only Hip Hop but many other social and political issues. As we grow, we are finding that it has also become a forum for voicing opinions and sharing ideas which might help in unifying and uplifting people all over the world. Film: 1968. 6pm. Directed by David Loeb Weiss. Taking its title from the Muhammad Ali quote about why he refused to fight in Vietnam, this documentary emerged directly from the protests of the 1960s. BHF UPDATE
....
Enjoy your 4th of July Holiday but get ready
july 10th postponed...sadat x...and the illest politician on the mic..and a word from the boss
July 4, 2008 Bodega Family,
As you can imagine we are in the thick of it right now.
Street teams (codename Operation Ether) are out putting up posters.
Designers are putting together the program.
Our writers are posting funny pictures of Terrell Owens.
We are so busy there we couldn't get the newsletter together. Which is fine, since with the amount of emails we have been sending you guys probably need a break. We did want to reach out on a more personal level and update you on a few things as well as thank you for all your help.
First off, we have postponed our July 10th date at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple. There were quite a few artists on the bill. Long story short, schedules are a hard thing to coordinate. The producers, Revive Da Live, BoomBoom NYC and the Bodega felt it would be better to push the date back and produce a show we knew would meet our own expectations. We are looking to return mid August/Mid September. Stay tuned.
Donors and friends who bought the package which included Masonic Temple fear not. You will now receive free admission to the after party at Southpaw with PPP, Invincible, House Shoes, DJ Parler and Writtenhouse. We are also working on additional premiums for you guys at the Main Day in the Park.
Donors - also look for an email this weekend regarding your packages.
In the good news department, our remaining events are looking great. Sadat X has been added to 'Brooklyn Keeps On Takin It' at powerHouse.
We have invited all the artists from the 10th to the park on the 12th. So those looking for your Bilal or Chip Fu fix come out. You may catch a cameo.
Our man DJ Kevin Sakoda will be on the wheels of steel on July 12th right alongside the great DJ Premier and J Period. DJ Saucey will be opening the night at Southpaw.
We also want to welcome Scheme Mag as a media partner for the after party.
Invited guests for the main day include: Murs, NY OIL, Channel Live, Smif N Wessun, Skillz, The Alchemist, Che Grand, Tanya Morgan, Print, DJ Spinna, Kevin Powell, New York City Councilwoman Letitia James, Councilman David Yassky, State Senator Eric Adams, State Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries, Sate Senator Kevin Parker and of course the illest politician on the mic our man Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
After the great event at Prospect Park last week with the Lyricist Lounge the Hip-Hop community is fully energized. We know this because we have seen our online donations spike and we couldn't thank you enough.
Your hard earned dollars are not buying a ticket, they are supporting a movement. You are helping shine the light on a side of Hip-Hop many forgot.
Old school legends like KRS ONE, as well as a new generation of digital hustlers like Mickey Factz and Fresh Daily. You are supporting minority and female owned business like the Bodega, Jakada Juice, Bling 47 and Revive Da Live.
And make no mistake you are saving lives. Your dollars are helping to produce Family Day which will help our youth eat better, exercise more and stem the epidemic of diabetes.
We, us, you, are stimulating a new generation of businessman and community activists who will make sure we remain in control of Hip-Hop culture and business. These include our interns and volunteers who are learning how to produce a world class event from the ground up.
Enjoy your 4th of July and if you haven't already please make those donations. Come out to powerHouse on the 11th and see my new favorite groups. Bring your kids out to Family Day. They can run around with my two little ones. Stay for my man 88 Keys and the hardest working man in Brooklyn, Homeboy Sandman. Then come rock with PPP at Southpaw.
We will be out at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park rain or shine. If the rain comes we will move the festivities under the tent in the Tobacco Warehouse.

Title: FuseBox Radio Broadcast w/ DJ Fusion Jon Judah
Episode: iHHF.net - FuseBox Radio Broadcast w/ DJ Fusion Jon Judah #109 β July 2, 2008
This is the FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion Jon Judah for the week of July 2, 2008 with some new and classic Hip-Hop Soul music, news and commentary.
This week's commentary was on the U.S. Presidential Election, the multiple meanings of the 4th of July/Independence Day to folks in the U.S. and more.
We had a FuseBox Radio Broadcast interview this week with our guest, Mr. Shadeed Eleazer, the creator of Indie Planet TV (http://iplanethiphop.ning.com/) and writer of "The New Digital Music Biz" area for WordofSouth.com. The interview covered the state of using technology in the music industry - from the best things about it to the mistakes that constantly get made by folks, amongst other good things.
We do not have a new Black Agenda Report (unable to retrieve before show recording) or Direct EFX segment (due to summer break) this week.

The 6th Annual Crotona Park Jams
The Crotona Park Jams, now in their sixth year, are recreations of the legendary park jams of Hip Hop's earliest years, growing up in the Bronx. At the annual Crotona Park Jams, the DJs are the show and they decide if, which and when MCs can get on the mic, during their sets, as it was in the beginning. Please join us and guests from all nations, in the Bronx this July as we celebrate the true culture of Hip Hop with legends and pioneers rocking the turntables and the mic. Not only do legends command the stage, master practitioners of every element can be found throughout the audience. Check photos by the Hip Hop's first photographer, Joe Conzo as well as Res One from our past park jams (in the pics section) at myspace.com/toolsofwar. A note from Jorge "Fabel" Pabon: co-founder of Tools of War
Experience Hip Hop in it's truest form! Tools of War Park Jams preserve the essence of Hip Hop DJing by presenting some of the culture's most talented practitioners on stage in the parks. For the past five years we have been blessed with experiencing magical moments in Hip Hop history. These jams preserve the spirit of Hip Hop's initial cultural imperative: free to the public, all ages, no dress code and organic artistic expression. In these celebrations of life and art, spontaneous cyphers erupt as dancers rock to the sets of the best DJs on the scene. From our elders to our youth, everyone gets down at the most clean and wholesome park jams ever.
The Tools of War Park Jams empower the audience with positive vibrations! The call for unification and the upliftment of our communities is reinforced by way of non-offensive entertainment. With a strict "no profanity and no racial slurs" rule, these jams present the best of what Hip Hop has to offer. One of my dreams came true when my wife, Christie Z-Pabon, successfully brought continuous Hip Hop jams back to the parks. Finally, I can look forward to going to the a whole summer's worth of culturally charged events just as I did back in the day! Once again, Hip Hop lives!
Official host, GrandMaster Caz, keeps us entertained as he rocks the mic and guides us through each jam's outstanding line up. Superman's legendary sound system blasts through the parks and side streets proving to be one of the mightiest Hip Hop audio arsenals in history. Christie Z's organizational skills keep the events jumping without delay. The consistency of these three individuals, all of the featured artists and the attendees share a common cause that has resulted in the resurrection of a dying ritual, Hip Hop park jams!
