"Filem ini wajib ditonton" - Abror Rivai, Siasah.
ON 18 October, 1987, a soldier ran amok with an M16 in the area of Chow
Kit, Kuala Lumpur. Due to the thorny circumstances of the time and
place, his amok triggered a citywide panic and rumours of racial riots.
Why did he do it? Why were Malaysians so jittery at the time? And what
happened next? THE BIG DURIAN speaks to 23 Malaysians (some real, some
fictional, to find out).
"Bold, brash and without pretentions of objectivity" - Danny Lim, The
Edge.
"The first truly Malaysian film" - Ambient Noise,

"Seperti buah durian, filem 'The Big Durian' ini terkandung pelbagai
persoalan dan isu-isu yang runcing dan meruncing ('thorny issues) yang
mampu menusuk perasaan. Walaupun berkulit keras dan tajam, ia perlu
kita kupas untuk kita ketahui apa yang terkandung dalam isinya." -

There's more!
An informal Workshop will be held at the same venue from 5-7 pm. The
Workshop is to develop the participants' own non-fiction video
projects. Participants should come prepared with at least an outline
of the themes they are interested in. (If they are just interested in
listening, OK also lah). Strategies will then be discussed on the best
ways to realise these projects, especially if the participants are on
tight budgets. This isn't a technical workshop but more of a means to
discuss ideas and to network with like-minded people.
