hey people!!
sorry for not reporting earlier. damn tired mah. that monday after
Unclogged Merdeka I lepak and slept all day. on tuesday I was back to
work. hectic days followed. until today lah. so lets grab the moment
and reminisce on that damn fabulous sunday.
first of all the monetary report lah. i must add here that i was really
kelam kabut late that night as my new "door-bitch" (untrained
basically) made this grievous mistake of putting all the money (from
the door and also from the DIY table sales) into one same container.
that's misdemeanour no. 1. he also forgot to jot down the number of
CDs, tapes and t-shirts originally brought in and put on the table by
them industrious DIY people. misdemeanor no. 2. then he also
intermittently forgot to jot down how many CDs, tapes and t-shirts
sold!! waaarrgghhh!
so there i was trying to math it out through out Moods set, a band I
really wanna see, and tearing my hair out. As an example of the mess,
we found out 12 of Kuchalana's CD-Rs were unaccounted for! anyway, with
the help of my gal and hectic running around asking the people who had
their stuff on the table, we managed to sort it all out, only by that
time Sabrina and gang finished their set. They were the last band of
the night and I think it was around 2 am or something.
so before i go on; to those who want to do gigs, remember the mistakes
up above. be vigilant! that will save you from a lot of headache later.
okay. the moolahhh:
there were 198 kids who came in and paid!! thank you!!! so we got RM
1980 altogether.
from that amount, we paid;
the soundman (Dayak) - RM 300
the two "door-bitches" - RM 100 (RM 50 each)
flyer printing - RM 60 (digital colour printing you!)
then the bus tickets back to their respective home towns:
Color My Iris - RM 100 (5 band members x RM 20)
Free Love - RM 44 (4 x RM 11)
Moods + Esam Stone Revival - RM 175 (5 x RM 35)
Kuchalana KT boys - RM 50 (2 x RM 25)
so all in, we spent RM 829 for all of the above, after deducting that
from RM 1980, we had RM 1150 to divide among us.
RM 1150 divided equally among 13 bands and me (14 parts lah), we get RM
82 each! Not bad at all.
As usual, utmost thanks to Evelyn for never letting us all down. Thanks
to the soundmen Dayak and Man Bai. Thanks to Farez and the "other guy".
Thanks to the waiters and waitresses who had to clean up the space,
inside and outside the next day. Thanks to Man Ke'cok and Abrokol for
the steaming hot keropok lekor! Thanks to all the band members and all
their friends and lovers too. Thanks to the new Custom Daisy's line-up
for a blistering set even tho' they know they wouldn't get paid! Thanks
to all the distros who came out and sold their stuff at the gig. Thanks
to NoBlackTie's neighbours who didn't call in the cops! Thanks to
everyone who was there and made it so much fun! Also thanks to the
moshers and body-slammers who didn't do what their guts told them to do
that day and night. Your patience and self-restraint has awarded us
with more gigs at NBT. Lastly thanks to Izzat (Monsoon/Enslaved Chaos)
who came over right after his wedding in Klang! Congrats!!!
now, a list of the "not so fun" items. the casualities:
1. Pusher's drummer lost his watch. He put it behind his drum-stool
when the band played and then he forgot about it. Later on we searched
for it and found it's gone. so if you know anyone wearing a new Swatch
from the gig, keep away from that thief.
2. A blue Boss guitar pedal (pitchshifter/delay) is also missing.
anybody knows?
3. Yandsen's Roland guitar amp blew its fuse (I hope that's the ONLY
problem with it!)
4. Intermittent incidents of near-fights and unnecessary distress due
to this one guy (an old friend of mine) who couldn't hold his drink.
basically a nice guy sober but totally another person when he's drunk;
the Bruce Banner of the scene, so to speak. apologies to those who had
to endure his "asshole" other self that night. I bet he can't remember
anything now.
5. I had to change the door policy JUST BEFORE the show started; from
RM10 for both sessions to RM10 for each session. I was worried that I
would not be able to cover the band's bus tickets home and more. I know
it caused a lot of confusion there and also frustration to those who
came unprepared. I apologise. I should have thought about it earlier.
getting old mah!! anyway, it worked though. we managed to cover most
expenses and everyone gets a bit of money.
i took tonnes of pictures, (most came out blurry though) and also spent
two DV cassettes on the videos (no time to check it out yet). I will
put up the pictures on the net one of these days. To those who took
pictures that day and night, can you send me some? I want to use it for
the zine and on the site. you will be credited. Also to those who took
videos, contact me and we can trade the footages.
The next CONFIRMED unclogged show is the New Years Eve in December but
I may organise one or two before that. I will keep you posted.
okay, this is getting too bloody long.
Thanks again all of you who were there, hopefully we'll do it again
very soon!
Joe Kidd
BTW: It was good seeing the older scenesters (who usually never go to
Unclogged shows) there that day. We nearly saw a jam by Fathul Maggots
and Oji Mutilation and friends that night. Maggots meets Mutilation!
That could have been THE grindcore event! Pity Oji had to leave early.
maybe next time...
