hello people, i've been missing out a lot lately. loads of stuff
happening but no time to spare. anyway, saw the back of the great
Sergio Mendes' balding head at No Black Tie on Sunday night, so that's
alright. also managed to down four heavy plates of exquisitely smoked
salmon at an Australian HiCom do the night before, so i'm happy. and to
top all that, i got a brand new sandwich maker for my birthday! best
mornings of me life cometh, a completely bourgeoisie tuna fest awaits.

that said, finally i had time to trawl the net and my mailboxes and
gather some news to share. print it, put on the wall and start making
plans...

AI Malaysia and HAKAM are organizing a one day workshop to discuss the
Police Act and how it undermines basic human rights. The right to
freedom of assembly and association is an intrinsic part of the right
to freedom of
expression.

The Police Act continues to place restrictions on every citizen's right
to assembly peaceably and has an intimidating effect on participatory
politics. Beside the said violation there are other provisions of The
Police Act that continues to undermine human rights. Is the Police Act
is in compliance with the International standards? The workshop is
aimed to dissect the current law and its application towards a reform
of the said Act.

Some of the most exciting artists working in the field of electronic
sound and music from Japan and Europe will be playing live at Phuture
in Zouk for two nights. Tune into the challenging sonic worlds of noisy
mavericks like Farmers Manual (Austria) and Hecker (Germany), alongside
the playful, funky electronic beats of Luomo (Finland) and Farben
(Germany), and the idiosyncratic ambient textures of Miroque (Japan).

Miroque (Japan) - Miroque is Japanese female electronica
artist/composer/keyboardist/onkyo artist. Her electronica sound is
toy-tronica glicth, toy sentimentalism electronica, girly colour of
electronics, essence of Japanese seashore sounds and Japanese forest
sounds.

Florian Hecker (Germany) - Florian Hecker started making music with
computers in 1996 and has been researching mobile performance tools
using laptop computers since the first wave of concerts by the Mego
label.

Luomo/ Vladislav Delay (Finland) - Finnish producer Vladislav Delay
practices the deconstruction of his various musical projects when
playing live. With luomo, the intimate bass-heavy signature sound and
mood fills the room and invites you to a different dance.

Farmers Manual (Austria) - Formed in Vienna in the mid-1990's, the
farmersmanual collective represents media art at its most anarchistic.

SND (UK) - "lots of delicate unraveling and heart-moving tones, always
placing the rhythmic at the forefront" - boomkat.com

Farben/Jan Jelinek (Germany) - "Under the moniker Farben, Jan Jelinek
has created some of the most curiously funky minimal-techno
