hey people,
the screening of Bowling for Columbine went without a hitch last night
at 9.30pm. about 40 of you turned up and by the look of it, everyone
had a good time. the space can cram up tens more, with more mats on the
floor, but it can be hot and sweaty as all the windows needed to be
closed for optimum screen and sound quality, and there's no aircond. we
had a huge screen (about 5x4 feet), a very nice projector and a great
sound system too! thanks to faizal t, malaysiakini and the ubu boys for
all that. one thing came up later though, we forgot to put out a
donation box!
anyway, we're pretty much inspired by it all and so me and faizal are
planning for more similar screenings, maybe after raya. also upon yin
pin's suggestions, we are planning for a "fest" of sort early next year
with art and experimental/punk/rock films.
two problems though:
a) a regular projector and screen (we can't use malaysiakini's
regularly)
b) a regular space (if we can't use ubu).
anyone of you who can help do contact me or faizal (faizalt@...).
we are also looking for films to screen, especially "edutainment",
"political", "historical docos", music films and art films; preferably
movies from out of the usual loop that is US and UK. If you have them
or know of collectors of such films, do contact us. it can be in either
DVD, VCD or VHS format.
thanks to all who were there,
cheers
joe the k and faizal the t
