POST-PUNK SUPERGROUPS 2004 (A.K.A VIAGRA WORKS!)
NEW ORDER, THE SMITHS, and THE STONE ROSES have been brought together
in a remarkable new project from the bass players from each band! New
Order's PETER HOOK, The Smiths' ANDY ROURKE, and Stone Roses' MANI have
formed a band that will be called either Stalingrad or Freebase.
THE JAM frontman PAUL WELLER is to join a host of musicians including
THE CLASH's MICK JONES, and THE SEX PISTOLS' GLEN MATLOCK at a special
tribute show in honour of the former Small Faces legend Ronnie Lane.
The charity show will take place at London's Royal Albert Hall on April
8th.
THE JAM bassist BRUCE FOXTON meanwhile is part of the line-up for a new
band 'The Casbah Club' that also features BIG COUNTRY's BRUCE WATSON
and MARK BRZEZICKI, and THE SILENCERS' JJ GILMOUR. The newly formed
band will play three shows in Ireland in April.
See the GIGS CLUBS EVENTS section on the website
(http://www.remembertheeighties.com) for the full list of shows.
The only worthwhile "supergroup" for me nowadays is....
SKETCH SHOW (Haruomi Hosono & Yukihiro Takashi, ex-YMO or Yellow Magic
Orchestra).
