Hi lovely people,

Please see the details regarding the benefit below:

Date: November 14, 2009
Time: 3:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Location: Plaza Pub, 1605 New York Ave, Arlington, TX, (817) 460-7346

The benefit is for Ryan and Heather (Watkins) Skagen. They recently experienced a tragic loss when their 9 day old daughter, Aura Kay Skagen, passed away due to complications from a 36 hour delivery. The benefit is our local Celtic community's way to help with the financial burden now faced by Ryan and Heather. Thanks to the efforts of Deanna Smith-Scotland and Craig Scotland, there will be numerous items for a raffle and silent auction. Ed, the owner of the Plaza Pub, is having food catered in as his "donation to the cause". To partake, we'll ask for a donation.

The musical line up for the benefit will be:

4:00 - 4:45 - Beyond the Pale
5:15 - 6:00 - Bards' Crossing
6:30 - 7:30 - Needfire

Immediately after the benefit, the Trinity River Whalers will start performing at 9:00 p.m. They will be including a tribute to Curt Marcus (Heather's uncle who just recently passed from a fatal heart attack). I understand there will be a slide presentation with photos of Curt and long time friends and family. The Whalers will be performing songs that are particular favorites of Curt's. I'm sure there will be lots of stories and toasts floating around the Pub that evening as friends and family gather to talk about their favorite memories of Curt.

Many thanks to everyone who is donating items for the benefit and to the musicians and Shadow Walter for sharing their time and talents with us. Thank you SO MUCH for your generosity!

Please come out to the benefit, help with donations - and then stay afterwards for the Whalers. It'll be a night to remember!!! Spread the word............

Cheers,
Connie

On Saturday November 14, 2009 (3:30-7:30 pm) a benefit is being held at the Plaza Pub in Arlington Texas. This benefit is for the Skagen Family. On October 5, Aura Kay Skagen was born to Heather and Ryan Skagen. She was beautiful and wanted, and loved beyond measure. She lived a mere 9 days. She was a gift to her parents, family and the world, as  her last gift was the donation of organs and tissue. Aura has enabled 6 people to have a second chance at life.  We are raising money to help her parents cover the expenses that have been incurred. We hope that the Plaza Pub will be full and we will raise a ton of money!

Many of you know Heather Watkins Skagen, she has been volunteer at NTIF for many years, in fact she has been attending since she was 2 years old. She served as a vendor coordinator in the Automotive building for several years. She was married at the festival in March of 2009.

Here's where you come in....if you are in a band , and can send cds for a raffle, If you are an artist and can send a piece of art for a silent auction, a vendor, who wishes to donate merchandise,  if you have tickets to a sporting event and would like to donate them....please feel free to contact me. We ask that you keep Aura, her family and the people who received her organ and tissue donations in your thoughts and prayers. We are sending this to our facebook, and myspace friends, as well as our artist and vendor friends all over the country, and around the world. Please forgive us if you get this more than once.

Thank you all!

We boycotted Scarby this year, so missed seeing the Rogues, and as usual, we've not been able to attend the festival this year. I'll just have to comfort myself with my CD's and DVD's..LOL
Glad you had a great time listening to them. BTW..it's ROGUES, not ROUGES (that is the reddish makeup ladies wear on their cheeks..LOL)
Take care,

OK, I was on the cruise, so I should know the answer, but...

In 1999, on the first Rogue cruise to the Caribbean. I know it was Commodore
cruise lines, but does anyone remember the name of the vessel?

Jiggernaut is not your typical Celtic band, nor are they your typical rock band. Formed in 2000, Jiggernaut is a powerful combination of Celtic, rock and folk music.  Drawing from years of experience playing rock and roll, and blues the rhythm section lays down a solid foundation that allows the bagpipes and vocals to soar.

A live Jiggernaut performance is passionate, energetic and always fun. Jiggernaut is the rare band that appeals to audiences from six to sixty, their tunes and songs tell the ancient stories and teach lessons of  today’s world all in a style that is entirely their own.

So what is  Jiggernaut? Celtic musicians with a rock sensibility?

Rock musicians with a Celtic sensibility?

You be the judge...

Our next coffee house is on February 13th and will feature Shift from 8-10.
Greeting,

There's a link there to a Celtic radio station that is playing our CD and apparently, if you request tunes and add them as favorites, we get more airtime! So, if you're so inclined, check out http://www.celticradio.net/

Driving reels, melodic jigs and heartfelt songs.

Shift has been an active part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Celtic music scene for the last two and half years. All three members of the band have a background in traditional music and lend their talents to this trio's exhillarating blend of tunes and songs.

Jason Huntley's fiddle rips and roars through fast-paced instrumentals, while taking on softer, melancholic tones for slow airs and songs. He gives voice to songs that range from rousing pub sing-alongs to love-lorn bluegrass numbers.

The guitar playing of Emily Bryant provides the rhythmic undertone, both fast and slow, that sets the mood for the band. Her vocals feature a warm, low, folksy sound that compliments songs, both old and new.

The percussive rhythms of the traditional Irish bodhran are brought to life by Scottish drummer Craig Scotland. Not only does he keep up with Jason's fast paced fiddling, he keeps the crowd going with jokes and banter throughout the night.

From pub to festival to party.

Shift can provide entertainment for a variety of folk-oriented venues. In pub settings, the level of the band's energy can match that of the crowd's and likewise, can blend into the background for quieter engagements like weddings and parties. Their repertoire covers the Celtic musical traditions of Ireland and Scotland as well as American Old-Time and Bluegrass.

Help us get March of to a great start with The David Munnelly Band, also lookout for more incredible celtic music both rock and traditional before and after NTIF and throughout St. Patrick’s week of Festivities.

Irish button accordion wizard David Munnelly and his popular, multi-award winning group bring new excitement to Irish music that has won them widespread audiences around the world. The band was a big hit at the 2007 North Texas Irish Festival and they wowed our audiences with their unique jazzy Irish tunes influenced by the Golden Age of Irish music of the 1920s and 30s and their stunning traditional songs, all performed with an exuberance, energy, and a fiery passion. Based in County Mayo with members from Donegal, Dublin, and Galway, The David Munnelly Band has exploded onto the international Celtic music scene in the past four years with hit albums in Europe, Japan, and North America. The group is acclaimed for their outstanding, precision musicianship and exciting live shows.

Started by Irish button accordion player David Munnelly, who's toured and recorded with The Chieftains and with DeDanann, the David Munnelly Band is one of the hottest bands on the traditional Celtic music scene. "The Irish band to see" (Irish Voice) has won special acclaim for incorporating the sound of the 1920s and 1930s and such bands from that era as the Flanagan Brothers with its traditional roots. Awarded "Concert of the Year" for both 2006 and 2007 by LiveIreland.com. The band has been featured in the U.S. on Superstation WGN-TV, and were highlighted in a two-part concert on NPR's "Celtic Connections," aired on over 100 stations across America.
With members from Mayo, Dublin, Donegal, and Tyrone, the band combines button accordion, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, piano, bodhrán and flute for a high-spirited instrumental sound colored with a bit of jazz and ragtime, topped with the singing of All-Ireland champion Shauna Mullin and the extraordinary percussive dancing of American Nic Gareiss.

Paul Keating of the Irish Voice says "A real crowd-pleaser and one of the more fascinating groups coming out of Ireland.the band to see!" Bill Margeson of LiveIreland.com and the Irish American News states, "There is no more loved group in the tradition. Munnelly is a creative force at the true epicenter of Irish music. Munnelly is arguably the best button box player in the world. Brilliant, brilliant music. Miss it, and you'll be missing where the tradition is going."

MOUNTAIN SMOKE

Thirty-six years of music, spanning four decades, and the sound is as fresh now as when they began. Mountain Smoke is original, unpredictable, and their audiences are as varied as the music they will encounter. Built with elements of country and folk, the power of newgrass, and the sweet flow of mountain ballads, the music is timeless. As songwriters and musicians, they remain on the leading edge of acoustic music.

Mountain Smoke has been twice selected "Oklahoma's Favorite Band" by the reader's poll in the 'Daily Oklahoman', and "Oklahoma's Best Country Band" by the 'Oklahoma Gazette' Music Awards. Playing a mixture of their original songs, and music they have adapted to their unique style, Mountain Smoke will take you on a musical journey. With a smile, they will tell you, “We have played at the White House in Washington D.C., in the Round Barn in Arcadia Oklahoma and most everywhere in between.”

In addition to performing at The White House and for Presidents Gerald Ford, George Bush, Jimmy Carter, and every Oklahoma Governor since 1973, the band's list of performance credits reads like a who’s who in bluegrass and country music. Appearing with Alabama, Asleep At The Wheel, Hoyt Axton, The Bellamy Brothers, Blood Sweat & Tears, Jimmy Buffett, Roy Clark, Vassar Clements, Commander Cody and The Lost Planet Airmen, Charlie Daniels, Elvin Bishop, Larry Gatlin and The Gatlin Brothers, Arlo Guthrie, Merle Haggard, Emmy Lou Harris, John Hartford, Richie Havens, Chris Hillman, Willie Nelson, New Grass Revival, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Gary P. Nunn, Pure Prairie League, Leon Redbone, Ricky Skaggs, Ralph Stanley, George Strait, Shoji Tabuchi, Three Dog Night, Mel Tillis, Jerry Jeff Walker, Hank Williams, Jr., and of course, the history making “KISS” concert.

The Mountain Smoke CD, "Bluegrass Hop" is available from CD Baby.com or direct from this website. Other recording credits include the theme song "Another Dusty Road" for the motion picture "Savannah Smiles", CD "Sing and Dance Again" and two record LP's, "On Blue Ridge" (featuring Vince Gill) and "Lettin' It Slip Away". Both early Lp's are now digitally re-mastered and available on one CD!

Mountain Smoke is Billy Perry (banjo, mandolin, guitar, and vocals), Tom Bergman (guitar, banjo, and vocals), Kenny Davis (resonator and pedal steel), Rich Dimonico drums and percussion), Jackie MaShore (accordion percussion, and vocals), Roger Mashore (bass, guitar and vocals), and Hal Clifford (guitar and vocals).

The group is also known for launching the musical careers of Vince Gill, Jimmy Gyles (with Roy Clark), Bobby Clark (Williams & Clark) and David Coe (with Michael Martin Murphy).

Hello Everyone,

We just wanted to let you all know that we are going to be playing three shows
soon in
Ontario, Canada. These are all pub shows, and all in one weekend, so it would
be a great
excuse for a road trip (or rather, a Roguetrip) for those of you who are near
enough to
make it. The schedule is below. Take note also that we are also performing at
the North
Texas Irish Festival in March. We hope to see you all at one of these shows.
For those of
you in Texas and surrounding areas, that NTIF show will be our only local
performance
before April at Scarborough Faire. We will NOT be at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
this year
for St. Patrick's Day, so plan accordingly. Please help us pass the word.

We hope your new year is off to a great start, and hope to see you soon.

Hello Everyone,

We wanted to get the word out, after we've been telling people that we would be playing at
McGonigel's Mucky Duck on February 21st, that we will NOT be there on the 21st. The Duck
double booked the date, and we got bumped. We are trying to get another date lined up, and
will let you know as soon as we find out. For those of you in Texas, please help us get the
word out. We just finished the weekend at Dickens on the Strand in Galveston, and we were
telling people there that we would be at the Duck on the 21st.

Sorry for the inconvenience. I can honestly say that this one is not our fault, though. Thanks
for your support, and we hope to see you at the Duck, whenever that will be. We are NOT
performing at the Duck for St. Patrick's Day, so our show, when we get it scheduled, will be
the only opportunity to see The Rogues in Houston in the near future.

Just a heads up, we will be performing at the North Texas Irish Festival this year, March 6-8,
in Dallas.

Slainté
