MY FAVOURITE FILM WITH MARC ALMOND
SUN 18 JULY 1PM (U)
CURZON SOHO
TICKETS £6
Everyone loves to go to the cinema and has a favourite film of all
time. My Favourite Film quite literally shares this sentiment by
giving well-known faces the chance to share their favourite film of
all time with an audience.
My Favourite Film in association with Time Out presents:

MARC ALMOND introducing IMITATION OF LIFE

Singer, songwriter and performer, Marc Almond's work with Dave Ball
as Soft Cell and then later as a respected solo artist has led to
over 15 million record sales worldwide spanning a 25 year career,
including a string of international hits with such classics
as 'Tainted Love', `Say Hello Wave Goodbye' and `Something's Gotten
Hold Of My Heart'. As a solo artist Marc has recorded over nine
albums, his most recent release being the critically hailed Russian
album `Heart On Snow'.

This afternoon is also a chance to celebrate the release of his new
book: IN SEARCH OF THE PLEASURE PALACE: DISREPUTABLE TRAVELS. In
this rollercoaster journey Marc goes in pursuit of the thrills,
spills and bellyaches that made each day of his youth so memorable
and created an image of him that was decadent, outrageous and
worryingly misunderstood. A wry, witty and all too often candid
journey navigating a path through middle age.

Marc will introduce his favourite film, a remarkable melodramatic
glorious masterpiece of 50s kitsch.

IMITATION OF LIFE
Director: Douglas Sirk
Starring: Lana Turner, John Gavin, Sandra Dee
USA 1958. 125mins.
Sirk's last movie in Hollywood is a coldly brilliant weepy, a rags-
to-riches tale of two intertwined families, in which the materialist
optimism is continually counterpointed by an emphasis upon racist
tension and the degeneration of family bonds. Forget those who decry
the 50s Hollywood melodrama; it is through the conventions of that
hyper-emotional genre that Sirk is able to make such a devastatingly
embittered and pessimistic movie. (Time Out Film Guide)

IN SEARCH OF PLEASURE PALACE: DISREPUTABLE TRAVELS will be on sale
after the screening at a discounted price.
