HUGHLEY TO HOST SHARPTON'S DREAM AWARDS: Eleventh annual gala to be held
tonight. Harell, Liggins among honorees.
*Rev. Al Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) will today (April 1st).
host its eleventh annual Keepers of the Dream Awards – given each year to mark
the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's death.
The honor acknowledges those who have continued to advocate for the principles
for which Dr. King gave his life. The Keepers of the Dream awards are given by
members of the civil rights community who have committed themselves to fairness
and racial harmony.
Among this year's honorees are: Andre Harrell of Harrell Music; Larry King of
CNN's "Larry King Live:; Esther Silver-Parker, SVP of Diversity Relations for
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; Alfred Liggins, Chairman and CEO of Radio & TV One Inc.;
Andy Stern, President of Service Employees International Union (SEIU); Robin
Roberts of Good Morning America; Mayor Dwight Jones of Richmond, Virginia; and
Maurice Cox, VP of Diversity & Inclusion Development at PepsiCo.
Comedian D.L. Hughley will host the event with appearances by Rev.
Run, singer Kathy Sledge, and R&B sensation Robin Thicke, who will deliver a
special musical tribute to Andre Harrell.
The eent will take palce rom 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Sheraton Hotel and
Towers, located at 811 7th Avenue (52nd and 7th Aves).
