LUTHER COMES BACK WITH DISCO : Balladeer readies voice for new Chic
album.
Luther Vandross
(Jun. 10, 2004) *Is Luther really ready to come back into the music
industry full throttle? The proof is in the pudding with the revival
of disco group Chic.
This is his first singing gig since his debilitating stroke more
than a year ago.
The news was announced Tuesday night at a fundraiser for the We Are
Family Foundation. Vandross, if he's ready, may contribute vocals to
a new Chic album that Nile Rodgers is putting together for a late
fall release.
Rodgers reassembled the original members of Chic for a show at
Studio 54 Tuesday night. Rodgers is associated with the origins of
disco as Chuck Berry is associated with the beginning of Rock &
Roll.
The Studio 54 attendees at the dinner and silent auction were
treated to Chic's performance of "Le Freak," "Good Times," "Dance
Dance Dance" and "I Want Your Love." In addition, performances by
R&B disco kings Tavares ("Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel") and
Maxine Nightingale ("Right Back Where We Started From"). They sang
live with no tracks.
