Sup, Chris. Funny you should ask!
Return of Giant Slits is absolutely phenomenal! I've owned it since '81, and yet
haven't listened to it since then! Wellsir, just this past week I got on this
brand new tear to get EVERYTHING Slitsvinyl put on CDR, and I couldn't believe
me ears! It goes all over the place, intricate structures and vocal
arrangements, minimal yet experimental, spacious tasteful psych-dub production,
inventive afrobeat yet very personal and classicaljazzy, elements of Zappa &
Beefheart, Shaggs, '50s bohemian beatnik, The GTOs, Yoko, Shangri Las, etc etc.
Ari is a stone genius on this LP, as are Steve Beresford (keys) and Bruce Smith
(Pop Group drummer). I think it's a hidden masterpiece, far surpassing the
mainly reggaefied "Cut" (which I've always loved). I also have the rare 7" promo
included in original pressings; a hilarious 12 min. American Radio Interview
done at WORT, Madison WI (1980).
Forgive all my gushing. Aren't you all just drooling now?
Too bad ROTGS is so difficult for fans to acquire... I could burn copies for
those interested, but just don't have the time or resources. Won't stoop to
$$$elling it, yet might considering trades if someone has any desirable items of
note.
Ain't it bizarre that simply because Sony/CBS has never saw fit to reissue it,
folks can wrongly assume that it's "awful"!!! NOT THE CASE! It's a FIVE STAR
career highpoint.
