I am looking for Supergrass videos. If anyone has a
DVD/VHS compilation of supergrass videos I would be
willing to trade just about whatever the owner of said
DVD/VHS could ask for.

Meanwhile, check out this video:

http://www.svcgrp.com and look for the song "Dream Vs.
Dreamer." It's about 15 MB I think.

Does anyone know if Supergrass has a favourite city to play (in the
States)? I thought I read somewhere that they liked San Francisco,
but I am wondering if i) that is true and ii) whether they have
expressed a preference for any other city/location? Might as well
see them having fun while they are over here wooing the masses. They
were SUPERB in Montreal, but somehow semed quieter in Portland (when
they were here earlier in the year). I want to see them FLAT OUT
having a great time.

Yes, I am saving up all my vacation (and pennies) to see them when
they are over here. As often as I can.

You only live once. Might as well enjoy it.

from last week's mean street magazine (free mag here in southern
california) interview with danny:

So with this penchant for doing as little as possible, fans have to
be wondering if Supergrass will find the energy to tour. Thankfully,
they like that part of their job.

"It's good, man," says Goffey, "Getting out on the highway and seeing
all those beautiful places like Salt Lake City."

Yes, he was joking. But he says he does like the Southwestern part of
the country. Namely, he says he enjoys "Arizona and all that weird
shit, [because people] don't get to see as many bands and they like
it more. You get these kind of loners."

The band can identify with the loner kids, he adds, better than the
L.A. and New York crowds who seem to show up, "just to see if you've
got cool haircuts."

hello fellow supergrassers! this is pretty much a shameless self-promo, BUT it
still
relates to Supergrass, sooo it all works out in the end. anywho, i have my own
web
radio show at my school and it will be airing today from 2-5pm EST at
http://radio.uccs.edu.

since it's *my* show, i get to play *my* bands which of course includes
Supergrass
and pretty much anything that relates to brit-pop/indie rock. this will be my
2nd
show and i will be playing Supergrass for the first time. good fun. anyway, i
hope
some of you are able to tune in live, but if not, check the 'archives' section
of the
page occasionally as we will be adding previous shows for you to download.
thanks!

Hey Yo,
Last night was a stone cold GAZ. Irving Plaza remains one of the
suck ass places to see a gig. I have now seen Palo Alto 4 times
more than I need to. The boys sounded great however and this
is the best set list I've heard this tour--although ZA should be the
opener.
Richard III
Rush Hour Soul
Breacon Beacons
Mansize Rooster
Late in the Day
Seen The Light
Lose It
Strange Ones
Evening of the Day
Mary
Moving
Funniest Thing
La Song
Pumping on your Stereo
Never Done Nothing Like That Before
Sun Hits the Sky
-----------------------
Lenny
Caught by the Fuzz

High expectations for this evening--and I still might scare GAZ on
the streets of NYC today. 119 Bar 7:30.
cheers,
adam

Hey all --

Here are a bunch of photos from the Cane's show in San Diego Monday
night. The show was super fun, Palo Alto was boring as usual, and the
Stereotypes weren't as disappointing as when they opened for Spoon. The
venue had set up a barricade in front of the stage, for which I was soon to be
greatful -- there was so much commotion on the main floor, what with the tons
of Irish people singing (I guess it was the national anthem or something,
because at one point Danny yelled "Shut up! Fuck that patriotic bullshit!) and
shoving one another that security really didn't care that four or five of us had
snuck in front of the barricade. It was nice to be able to move around and get
photos from different angles -- it was also nice to be the first to snag a set
list
as well as a drum stick that Danny broke.

Anyway, here's that link
http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/bc/supergrassphotos/lst?.dir=/San+Diego+
8.04.03&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/

And if anyone wants prints, I'm pretty reasonable.

i love loop, in my opinion it was better than the last album. my
favorite tracks are za, brecons beacons, grace and la song. i have
to admit it took a few spins, but it definitely grows on you the more
you listen to it. its hard to believe that their sound seems to
change with every album but at the same time still have that
supergrass sound...if that makes any sense.

I totally agree! Personally Rush Hour Soul is my favourite - but they're all
brilliant. They perform their songs with so much energy, and so many of them are
upbeat and just plain good fun to listen to! Might be time for a "Best Of" soon?

I think LOOP is a good little album. Liked it a lot at first but I think its
more of an instant fix album that I dont go back to so much.
With X-Ray I was really disappointed with it at first and over the three years
before LOOP it grew on me more and more. LOOP has better songs on it than X-Ray
but X-Ray has more of a mood to it and warrants repeated listening.

I think the B-sides from LOOP are far inferior to previous efforts, maybe they
put everything into the album and had little left over. Sick and Believer were
truly great songs that could have been on an album.

Where do Supergrass go from here though??

A Greatest Hits and then split? I bet that's what Parlophone have in mind. They
only have one album left on their five album deal. Rush Hour Soul didn't even
make the top 40 for the first time!!! Not that I'm surprised, I think it's their
weakest single to date. Why Can't Get Up wasn't released as the second single I
don't know, it's a song everyone can relate to on the radio- as opposed to a
song about comets with no chorus!!

I love Supergrass but they need to pull it out the bag now to survive. They need
to start writing songs about themselves more, let us into their heads a bit. My
main gripe with the band these days is their live shows. I saw them in October
last year and they played the whole of their new album and most of their hits -
this was excellent, as a fan I got to hear all the new material and the casual
concert goer got all the songs they knew too. BUT, when they played Wembley (I
didnt go), they played the same set practically - why would an arena crowd want
to hear the entire new album?? Supergrass have to wake up to their fans needs.
At Glastonbury they played a bonkers set list which failed to include their
current single - Seen The Light or Grace! They didn't announce Rush Hour Soul as
their next single, or give its release date, they played four songs in a row
from I Should Coco like they were playing them in their sleep..... it seemed
tired. Gaz hardly said a word to the crowd and people wanted so badly to hear
some banter. He seemed perplexed at the roar of the crowd every time he stepped
forward, people just wanted to hear him say hi!! Some songs fell flat on their
face - Rush Hour Soul being one. Then, as the sun was setting - the perfect time
for Late In The Day, they didn't play it. It was really frustrating. Gaz needs
to involve people and connect. They need to change their set more.

Think about it, how many people bought Alright? They refuse to play it. It was a
double A side, so everyone knows Time too - do they ever play it? No. Going Out
was one of their biggest singles. They hardly play it now. What is wrong with
them??? Instead we get Strange Ones at EVERY show and about 3 versions of it as
B-sides.

At their own shows they could play a host of great songs- You Can See Me, I'd
Like To Know, Tonight, CHEAPSKATE - now why is that never played????

Oh and why was a DVD of Rush Hour Soul video not released either?? Sorry to
moan so much but does anyone agree with what I've said??

Ross Thomas

I love LOOP as well. My favorite songs change every time I see them
live.
Since the shows I saw last week, my LOOP faves are Funniest Thing and
Evening of the Day (cute that Gaz and Mick switched instruments on
this one).
After seeing them in February, my faves were Za and Can't Get Up.

Supergrass are such a great, fun live band, even with Danny's fucked
up
tempo changes.

WOW!
Someone with some real solid points for sure! I would say that
X-Ray is my fave album so far. It took a while to grow on me but I
think it has the most varied sounds and changes moods quite
well. Also my initial dislike to it stemmed from the fact that it
takes so FRIGGIN LONG TO GET NEW MATERIAL OUTTA
THESE FOPS--expectations run high. LOOP seems to be a real
tribute album showing off the influences-- i.e. T.Rex, VU, Elvis,
Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, et. al. I have no problem with this as with
exception of The Velvets nobody around sounds like T.Rex or
Elvis.
From a how to get popular standpoint you are spot on Ross. A
song like "Rush Hour.."-I like a lot- but "Can't Get Up" would be
more radio friendly. I think "Evening of the Day" is a real scorcher
too--perhaps "Never Done..." would have worked as an official
single with video just in light of current music trends.
I should also state that I am not a big pop music fan. Most of
what I hear does very little for me. Supergrass rises well above
all of this--since the 2nd album they seem to have grown more
from four musicians into a 4-headed-maybe six counting
producers--8 armed beast that achieves a wide variety of sounds
collectively rather than individually--if that makes sense.
I understand your points on set lists. I only listened to The
Glastonbury bootleg once but thought it sounded good--not the
best sound quality--wish I had been at the gig. If you say the sun
was setting and they should have launched into "Late in the Day"
how come I don't hear a blood curdling scream for it????? They
did play "Evening of the Day" new album understandably more
appropriate. My problem with the live gigs is being a huge fan
and knowing they could play two completely different sets back to
back they continue to be quite predictable. Which is actually what
I like about the Glastonbury show.
As for the future who knows. One more album for Parlophone
probably 2005 if we're lucky. I think I like the mysterious stream
of conscious lyrics. I've heard enough "ohh baby why'd you go"
"I'm a bad ass yo" etc. In fact what's so great about the first big
single? The enjoyment of being a youth--ENJOYMENT!?! Nobody
is happy anymore. I personally feel that they will stick together for
the long haul the groups seems to have a lot of camaraderie. If
the stay true to the music they've made I'll remain a fan--and
frankly screw popularity better they remain overlooked and
produce quality material versus going out for the money.
cheers,
adam

have in mind. They only have one album left on their five album
deal. Rush Hour Soul didn't even make the top 40 for the first
time!!! Not that I'm surprised, I think it's their weakest single to
date. Why Can't Get Up wasn't released as the second single I
don't know, it's a song everyone can relate to on the radio- as
opposed to a song about comets with no chorus!!

survive. They need to start writing songs about themselves
more, let us into their heads a bit. My main gripe with the band
these days is their live shows. I saw them in October last year
and they played the whole of their new album and most of their
hits - this was excellent, as a fan I got to hear all the new
material and the casual concert goer got all the songs they knew
too. BUT, when they played Wembley (I didnt go), they played the
same set practically - why would an arena crowd want to hear
the entire new album?? Supergrass have to wake up to their
fans needs. At Glastonbury they played a bonkers set list which
failed to include their current single - Seen The Light or Grace!
They didn't announce Rush Hour Soul as their next single, or
give its release date, they played four songs in a row from I
Should Coco like they were playing them in their sleep..... it
seemed tired. Gaz hardly said a word to the crowd and people
wanted so badly to hear some banter. He seemed perplexed at
the roar of the crowd every time he stepped forward, people just
wanted to hear him say hi!! Some songs fell flat on their face -
Rush Hour Soul being one. Then, as the sun was setting - the
perfect time for Late In The Day, they didn't play it. It was really
frustrating. Gaz needs to involve people and connect. They need
to change their set more.

play it. It was a double A side, so everyone knows Time too - do
they ever play it? No. Going Out was one of their biggest singles.
They hardly play it now. What is wrong with them??? Instead we
get Strange Ones at EVERY show and about 3 versions of it as
B-sides.

Can See Me, I'd Like To Know, Tonight, CHEAPSKATE - now why
is that never played????
