The show tonight was another great one! I was worried when I got
there, because the weather was looking like it might not cooperate,
and I was having flashbacks to last year when this venue was rained
out. It had been raining in Wilmington all afternoon, but it cleared
up in time for the show. There was a classic car show going on at the
festival, and Sheri Smith had her YELLOW 1959 Oldsmobile convertible
there...after all, it was the mascot of the BANANA SPLIT FESTIVAL!
Pete and I just bought a classic car as well, (a yellow 1958 Buick
Roadmaster convertible)and this was our first car show...and
since our car matches Sheri's, we parked close to her so we could be
the two "top bananas"!
After the banana split staff took the stage for the "peeling of the
Bananas"...the festival was officially opened, and the show started.
The guys hit the stage sporting their new summer shirts. A nice red
and gold two tone. They looked fabulous!
It has been a couple of weeks since the last show, and the guys were
pretty wound up. Mark and Glenn seemed to have loads of fun, messing
with Duke, and there was a lot of goofing around onstage. Duke's mic
stand fell apart at one point...he handled it with grace and charm,
and after trying to put it back together for a minute or so, gave up
and went and got another one. The second half of the show started,
and the guys came out on stage, wearing their brand new oufits.
Their jackets look black...then the light hits them and you can see
them change to a deep purple color. After Duke sang "Can't Take My
Eyes Off Of You" he was rewarded with a rose from his new fan
Kip...this was her first show...I think she liked it! Mark and Glenn
also received roses during the show, and like most Van-Dells shows it
was over too soon.
Now, I look forward to next Saturday, when the Van-Dells will be
playing at the Earth Angel Cruise In...and this will be "A History Of
Rock & Roll" show!
I hope to see all of you guys there!
