From www.killtheband.com
The band is well into recording their third album with Producer Rick Rubin in
Los Angeles. The recording session is going well and they're currently in the
tracking phase. Drummer Michael Jerome (PleasureClub/Course of Empire) is
assisting the band in the recording session. The songs supposedly sound amazing
but it may be several months before the album is finished. The album will
probably consist of 10-12 tracks and the band is finding it very difficult to
narrow down the which tracks will make the album. Although there is no set
tracklisting yet, many of the new songs played at recent shows will undoubtedly
make the album.
The band's manager says that "everyone is happy and healthy, and we can't wait
for everyone to hear the amazing work the guys have done."
Ours has also been absorbed into the Geffen Records rooster! This is a result
of the DreamWorks Records merger with Geffen/Universal.

Ours And Rick Rubin: Together At Last

It's a dream come true for Jimmy Gnecco. This month, the Ours frontman will
travel to Los Angeles to work with longtime friend and producer Rick Rubin
(Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jay-Z) on his band's forthcoming third
album.
"We're all really happy about it," says Gnecco. "We weren't able to [work
together] for the first two records because I wasn't on his label, but now we've
been able to legally work it out. We've been trying to for a while."
Due in spring 2005, Gnecco says the as-yet-untitled record will be an intensely
emotional affair on par with the band's prior releases. At this stage, however,
he is hesitant to comment on the overall sound.
"It's hard to say because there's so much tragedy in this record and so much
emotion that I've gone through the last few years in writing it," he says. "I've
had a few close friends die. I've broken up from long-term relationships and
there's so much subject matter at this point that it's hard to say. It could be
anything."
This summer, Gnecco joined Rubin in L.A. to record "Someone To Die For" for the
Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. Written by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave), the
melancholy ballad features a prominent solo by Queen guitarist Brian May, thanks
to Rubin's vision.
"I'm not a fan of guitar solos normally," Gnecco admits. "But if I ever was, it
was Brian May growing up as a guitar player. As far as that style goes, I'm a
huge Queen fan so I said, 'If you can get him, I wouldn't mind having a guitar
solo.' He ended up playing through the whole thing and really elevated the whole
effect."
Gnecco says he regrets not having played more Canadian dates in the past and
attributes the band's absence to a lack of label support. As a result, Gnecco is
embarking on a solo acoustic tour of Ontario and Quebec this month to make up
for lost time.
"We're taking matters into our own hands," he says. "We haven't been able to
spend as much time as I actually wanted to and I apologize for that. We're gonna
do everything we can do to come back. We do take Canada very seriously and I
can't help it if our record company didn't - but I do."
