July 23: Fito Reinoso
Shake
off the workday – dance, tour the museum, and celebrate summer at MoAD.
Enjoy Cuban bands from the Bay Area and beyond. Designed to present
live music of the African Diaspora, this five-event program runs July
23 to September 10.
July 23: features Fito Reinoso, a premier
Cuban born sonero performing a variety of styles, from timba to the
most recent urban Havana grooves, along with classic son and
cha-cha-cha. His voice reminiscent of the late and beloved legendary
Cuban singer Beny Moré, Fito has kept alive his strong ties with Cuba
in a way that gives his repertoire a vibrant and modern sound. The
evening includes a salsa lesson, DJ Waltdigz spinning, and no host bar.
Presented by: MoAD and Oyé Productions.
July 30: “Dos 4 y Los
Mios,” features Leyder Chapman, producer, lyricist, composer, and
choreographer. This fusion group blends salsa, timba, reggaeton, and
rap for exciting dance music focusing on Cuban rhythms. Chapman has a
large following throughout the Bay Area because of his unique, highly
energetic and dynamically infectious performance spirit. The evening
includes a salsa lesson, DJ Waltdigz spinning, and no host bar. Program
presented by: MoAD and Oyé Productions.
August 13: Rumbaché
has a rigorous performance schedule throughout the Bay Area, including
festivals and club dates. Under the leadership of percussionist
Patricio Angulo, Rumbaché is the voice of youth for San Francisco's
salsa scene, and ignites enthusiasm in dancers and music connoisseurs
alike. Fusing salsa, timba, bomba and whatever else they find to spice
up the mood, Rumbaché performs a hard hitting style of dance music. The
evening includes a salsa lesson, DJ Waltdigz spinning, and no host bar.
Presented by: MoAD and Oyé Productions.
August 27: Cuban
born percussionist Jesús Díaz has assembled an incomparable group of
accomplished artists whose talents combine Funk, Jazz, Rumba, Son, and
varied Afro-Cuban elements within the syncopation of modern expressions
in Cuban dance music. The drive of the music is a direct function of
remaining engaged with the dancers. Sharing the stage with renowned
Cuban artists such as Issac Delgado and Manolin, Jesús Diaz shows timba
is alive and well in the U.S. The evening includes a salsa lesson, DJ
Waltdigz spinning, and no host bar. Presented by: MoAD and Oyé
Productions.
September 10: Composer/musician Yosvany
Terry consciously communicates his African and Cuban lineage through
sounds that originated in Africa and inspired new music in the
Caribbean, Brazil, and the American South. His voice and style are
unique and complex, and he has married Cuban and American musical
traditions to create a new and exciting sound. This is a rare
opportunity to see Yosvany Terry in a more intimate setting before his
Saturday, September 12 performance with Yerba Buena Gardens Festival.
The evening includes a salsa lesson, DJ Waltdigz spinning, and no host
bar. Presented by: MoAD and Oyé Productions.
