At the time of his death, Merchant was working on several features set
to be released in the near future. "The Goddess," directed by
Merchant, stars Tina Turner as an Indian goddess and has already been
filmed. So has "The White Countess," starring Vanessa and Lynn
Redgrave and Ralph Fiennes, about a blind diplomat in China.
