By listening to their music, a music fan could not determine the age or the years together as a group. However, Tina Y Los Gallitos is not your everyday musical group. Their age, talent, and musical chemistry together makes them a musical prodigy. The core of the Conjunto is the three family members. Robert, Tina, and John Vega are the foundation of Tina Y Los Gallitos.
Robert Vega is 20 years of age and plays accordion and sings second voice. Tina Vega is 19 years of age and plays bajo sexto and sings lead vocals. She is one of the few female bajo players in the industry. She was recently nominated for the TTMA Industry Awards along with Lee Villareal and Ernie Salgado. The youngest member of the band is John, who is presently 15 years of age. John Vega plays bass and sings back up vocals. Robert and Tina began learning to play their respective instruments at the age of nine. John started learning to play at the early age of six years. It was his sister Tina that taught him to play bass. The newest addition to 'The Youngest Conjunto', is 17 year old cousin, Priscilla Tamayo on drums. With Robert as her teacher, she has advanced rapidly during the short time that she has been with the group.
Their musical influences are Tony De la Rosa, Ramon Ayala, Flaco Jimenez, Los Tigres Del Norte, and Jaime Y Los Chamacos. Tina Y Los Gallitos began playing professionally in the fall of 1999. They have performed at many private family functions, Mexican rodeos, and public dances. San Antonio, Wharton, Beasley, Dallas, Harlingen, and Austin are some of the cities that the group has traveled to perform.
Tina Y Los Gallitos plan to finish their homeschooling, become full time musicians and tour the USA and Mexico. Together these musical prodigies hope to expand their future in this industry. For more info or bookings contact us at 713.721.5770 or tinaylosgallitos@sbcglobal.net
