It's time to get excited about our upcoming Basket Bingo.  Look in your mailbox today or tomorrow for information coming home about the bingo fundraiser scheduled for February 24th.  Selling tickets earns $$ for your student account.  Every student should recieve 2 tickets mailed to your address we have on file.  You can get additional tickets from Ms. Hopkins.  If you don't receive your letter by Monday, please let us know and we'll get one out to you.  We don't want anyone left out of the fun.

Spread the word, bring your friends and family.  If you've never been to a bingo before, take my word for it, you're gonna have FUN!

We're asking for donations of "filler items" to go in the baskets.  Please see the mailer for more information on that.  If you'd rather make a cash donation towards the purchase of fillers and/or door prizes, please let us know.  We'll gladly accept that as well.

When we get closer to the bingo date, we will be asking for volunteers to help at the admission table, the raffles table, and the special games table.

If you have any questions at about the bingo, please contact us:

I am in need of 2 parents and 4 students to work the All-County Band Concert on
Saturday. The parents would be working the admission table and the students
would be doing the stage set-up. The county makes a donation to the band for

After careful planning and successful surgery by Jerry Shuck and Nick Hilton the original John Deer tractor underwent an engine transplant.

Many thanks to Jerry and Nick for their efforts to restore one of our work horses back to working condition!

Just before Christmas I stressed myself about where to purchase a Letterman's jacket for my son Aaron.  We did get him one.  Some of your kids may have seen Aaron's jacket. And the company did it in less than a week.  I gave them the patches and told them what I wanted on the jacket and it was done!  If you are looking to purchase a jacket for your son/daugther the store is on North Market Street,  Custom Imprints - they have a sports attire store across the street.

THE TJ BAND CANDY SALE IS STILL GOING ON!
A lot of candy has been sold and the student, to date, have earned just shy of $3,000.00 toward their individual Student Accounts.  WAY TO GO KIDS!!!  I have bought so much candy at SAM's that they are beginning to wonder what is going on with the TJ Band!!!
There are a few students who have not turned in any money yet for the candy they received.  Even if you have not sold the entire box or bag, go ahead and turn in whatever money you have so we can credit your Student Account.   The trip fees are due and we want you to be able to use this money towards that so your parents do not have to write any checks!!
Look at the list below.  If your name is on it, get whatever money you do have in to Ms. Hopkins.    If you do not plan on selling the remainder of your candy, turn that in to Ms. Hopkins also.   Someone else will be happy to take it to sell.

Once again, I am putting out a request for sewers. As you all know, we have an
oustanding indoor color guard program already in full swing. I am in need of
several parents that can help out with flag sewing and a couple of very special
individuals to help sew the tops for the guard's uniform. The flags are very
simple and are completely made up of almost straight lines so if you are looking
to just get your feet wet in the guard sewing world, now is the time. The tops
will need someone with a little more experience as you would be following a
pattern that has already been created. Please let me know if you are able to
help out. Thanks!

Hello Everyone
I had put out a plea for the Camp Hill Program a few weeks ago to use as a model for the Indoor Show program.   Someone had one for us, but it is lost in the recesses of a child's bedroom, most likely, never to be seen again!!  If anyone else has one they would be willing to loan us for a couple week, I promise to return it unharmed.   Just send it in via Ms. Hopkins office and I will get it, treat it like gold and return it to her office for it's safe return to you as quickly as possible.

THANK YOU

INDOOR GUARD AND PERCUSSION SHOW.  MARCH 15.  4:00

TJ Band Parents, we have many things to do for the Indoor Percussion and Guard Show coming up.  So many of you have signed up to help, and I can not tell you how grateful I am to each one of you.  There are still some openings for various jobs during the day.  I will list them at the bottom of the page.  If there is something you would like to help with, but do not see it listed, please send me a note and I can try and accommodate you.
Trophies will be presented  to the top Percussion and Guard groups.   We would like have sponsors for the trophies again and I would like to be creative with this.    I would like to have each section of the band sponsor a trophy, as well as individual band families, businesses and companies in the Frederick area.  If any of you work for any of the business in the area, we would love to have them sponsor a Trophy for our show.  Should anyone  like to sponsor a trophy individually, please let me know.  If you would like to sponsor a trophy as a TJ Band section, please let me know that as well.   I will be sending home a Trophy Sponsor Sheet next week so look for that in the bottom of your band students book bag!!!
The program will be done a bit differently than we have done them in the past.  This year I have divided the program up into individual sections.   Chrissie Reimnitz will be handling all the advertising patrons for the program.   Irene Shuck will be handling the page layouts and Trish Colwell will be doing all the printing and binding for the program.  Chrissie will be sending out e-mails regarding soliciting adds for businesses with in the Frederick area or individual adds for your student.   Hit up your local grocery stores, hair dressers, car repair and  gas stations, anywhere you go within the next 3 to 4 weeks and send the adds to either Chrissie or myself.   Look for a form with the cost of full page to business cards, also in the bottom of you child's book bag!!!   If anyone would like to help with the production of the program PLEASE let me know.  The more help the better!!
There will be many things coming up within the next few weeks and I will try to keep you updated on all the happenings.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

POSITIONS OPEN FOR INDOOR SHOW!!!
The Indoor Show is approaching faster than any of us would like to think!!
I have been asked by several of you what jobs still need to be filled.
Below I have listed the openings up to this point. Additional areas may
need more workers and likewise, we may need to add venues as planning
progresses. This is a starting point at least. For all those working
outside with parking, my goal is to have enough of you that we can put you
on a rotating schedule. I know it will be cold and noone needs to be
outside, in the dark, in windy conditions, in a blizzard, walking up hill
both ways!! ( JUST KIDDING!! ) the entire evening.
Look the list over, pick where you might like to work and send me an e-mail.

HillmanMAH@...

THE SECOND PAYMENT OF $200 IS DUE TUESDAY, JANUARY 15TH !!!!

Here is the latest on the upcoming trip to New York City.

1. We will be staying at the Marriott Courtyard in Lyndhurst, NJ. This is right next door to the Medieval Times Dinner Theatre, where the parade awards dinner will be held on Sunday night.  Some of you have mentioned that you are making your own travel arrangements and would like to stay at or near the bands hotel.  If you would like to get a good price on the room call Kewl, Inc. at 301-898-8628.  Let them know that you are with the TJ Band.  You will need to pay Kewl directly... not the TJ Band Boosters.  To be clear, this is only if you are making your own travel arrangements. If you are going with the band, your room has already been reserved.

If case you are wondering, yes... the awards dinner is happening on Sunday, before the band is judged at the parade on Monday.  Why is that?...you might ask.  Ask away....I haven't got a clue, but that is how it is scheduled.

2. If you would like to make your payments online, with a credit card, you can do that.  Just follow these instructions.

  A. Go to www.kewledu.net
  B. Click on the school trips link on the left navigation (this will take you to a login page)
  C. In the box, enter tjband in lower case and click login (from here you will be able to make a payment)

I just made my second payment at this site to make sure that it works...and it does.

3. We are very close to publishing the itinerary.  Once we have confirmation that our 1st choice for a Broadway Play is a GO...Phantom of the Opera,  we will firm up the rest of the itinerary.  You can check www.kewledu.net to get a copy of the itinerary, once it is complete.

4. THE SECOND PAYMENT OF $200 IS DUE ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 15TH.  It is very important that you keep up with your payments as the band has to make payments to the tour company and the parade coordinator.  Just like you, the band does not keep ten's of thousand's of dollars laying idle to cover things like this.  We need to keep the cash flowing.  If you fall behind you will receive polite and persistent calls as friendly reminders of your obligation.

Are you as Jazzed as I am about this trip.  It is going to be FANTASTIC.

To the tune of "New York, New York":

Start spreading the news,
we're leaving one day,
we're going to be a part of it,
New York, New York.

These black Dinkle shoes,
are longing to stray,
right through the very heart of it,
New York New York.

$20 to the person who can BEST create TJ Band lyrics to finish the song.

GO BAND !!!

Finally a reminder to volunteer breakfast workers.  Please come to a short meeting at 6:30 Wednesday evening before the boosters meeting to discuss job responsibilities at Applebees.  We could still use 1 or 2 more parents to volunteer to help with the breakfast.

Thanks,
Ginger Reece

Hi Everybody,

Please remeber to turn in Applebees ticket money and any unsold tickets to Miss Hopkins on Monday.  If anyone wants to get some tickets on Monday, Miss Hopkins has some, Emily Reece has some, and I will be there Monday after school with more tickets.  Please plan on paying for the tickets when you pick them up Monday.

I would like to meet with volunteer workers before the boosters meeting at 6:30 pm on Wednesday.  We will go over the duties for each job.  Please remember that if you are working and want to be guaranteed a meal afterwards,  buy a ticket because there may not be enough food left for everyone.

Thanks,
Ginger Reece

HAPPY NEW YEAR TJ BAND PARENTS
The Fundraising Committee would like to wish all of you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
We hope the next half of this school year is as much fun for all of you as it has been for the three of us.  We have truly enjoyed working with you and look forward to many more fundraisers this coming semester.

Come out to Applebee's on December 12 to join us in celebrating the start of 2008.   Tickets are available through Ginger Reese and Ms. Hopkins should you need to purchase them.  This breakfast will be a really nice and relaxing way to start off the new year!

Now that the Cat is out of the bag, so to speak, it is not too late to contribute to the Tuba Fund.  Ms. Hopkins was genuinely surprised.  Trying to keep things a secret around the band room is difficult, but we managed!!!!  Thank you to all who contributed to the much needed new Tuba.  Should you still want to participate in this fund you can send your contributions to:
 TJ Band Boosters
P.O. Box 1631
Frederick Md 21702
C/O: Mike Hillman/Tuba Fund

OR you can give your contribution to either Amelia Ecker or Jean Spencer.

Again, Jen, Bruce and Jean wish you a very Happy New Year!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Now that it's 2008 and almost time to go back to school, it's time to think about raising money for our band trip to New York.

One of our next fundraisers is our pancake breakfast at Applebees on January 12.  All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the trip fund to reduce trip costs.

We make our money on this fundraiser through ticket sales. All money from ticket sales goes to the band.  Tickets were made available to students the week before the holiday break.  We didn't get alot of students willing to take tickets.  Please check with your student to see if he or she took tickets and if so have they made it out of the back pack or instrument case.  If your student didn't take any tickets, please consider purchasing tickets for yourself or checking if any friends or family might be interested in coming.  The breakfast runs from 8 - 10 am and includes pancakes, sausage, and beverage.  Tickets are $5.00.  Please check with Emily Reece for tickets after 4th period in the band room.  Money from ticket sales and any unsold tickets should be returned to the band room by Monday, Jan.7th.

There will be sign up sheet for breakfast workers in the band room.  All workers must be 16 or older and may be students or parents.  The worker's will be needed from 7 am to approximately 10:30am.

If you have any questions, please email or phone Ginger Reece at 301-371-9723 or ir000659@... .

Thanks for your help,
Ginger Reece
