I was grabbed by the first sean nos song I heard (Shores of
Lough Bran) 25 years ago and have been delighting in and working
on them since. Unfortunately, I live in Portland, oregon.
Fortunately, I spent 5 summers in Ireland. Unfortunately, that
was many years ago. Fortunately, I can learn from CD's and
records. Recently I picked up Aililiu na Gabhna from a Solas
CD. It's a delightful bit of a ditty that has a lot going for
it in a festival situation: easy to listen to and tap feet to
but with the weight of being traditional and in Irish and it has
a chorus for those who like that in a group. And it's fun to
sing! A break from the slower ones.
