Message from the band 'Seize the Day'
with my
hammer I break the chain, I will not remain in silence…
Over
the years many people have thanked us for the campaigning work we’ve
done, and even been inspired by our music to take action themselves.
Now we have the opportunity to do something world-changing together.
The UK government is
poised to commit billions of public money to a nuclear future, with
new Nuclear Power plants producing more radioactive waste, and a new
arsenal of Nuclear Missiles making the world a still more dangerous
place. At the same time they condemn and threaten other countries
for trying to get WMD and nuclear reactors of their own.
Now is the time for a
vigorous UK campaign to stop the nuclear juggernaut before it gets
rolling again. “Nuclear Power No Thanks” and “Ban The Bomb”
must become the watchwords of a new generation. Nuclear technology
and nuclear aggression are not acceptable solutions to the global
crisis we have created.
We
are inviting all friends of Seize The Day, and all like-minded
musicians, to join us for 48 hours at the Faslane 365 blockade in
West Scotland on October 9th and 10th.
Faslane is the UK’s
Trident submarine base, where nuclear missiles are stored and
loaded. Starting in September, Faslane 365 will be a continuous
peaceful blockade of the 3 gated base, renewed daily by visiting
groups of 100-200 people, some of them willing to be arrested and
some of them not.
Seize The Day have joined
Faslane actions before, and we have found the Scottish police to be
friendly and even to some extent supportive towards protestors. We
are looking forward to a challenging, inspiring, and extremely
festive experience with YOU on Britain’s nuclear front-line!
Faslane
blockade, October 9-10th
Each blockading group of
100 or more people is committed to 2 days activity – one day
supporting other blockaders, and the next day running the blockade
itself, closing down the gates to the base through non-violent mass
obstruction.
Eventually the police will
tell us to leave the road. Once the police move in to clear it,
those who stay in the way will be slowly removed and then arrested.
They will normally be released later that day, or the next morning.
There will be plenty of opportunity to avoid arrest, but obviously
the more people the police have to deal with, the longer it will
take, and the more the work of the base will be disrupted.
If you like what we
sing about, but have never been involved in non-violent direct action
before, this will be an ideal and well-supported event to get you
started. Whether or not you’re prepared to be arrested yourself,
your presence at the blockade will make a huge difference.
Joining
Seize The Day’s blockade
You will need to make your
own travel arrangements, but once you are there we will meet together
in shared accommodation, to eat, talk and sleep. We will travel
together by bus to the base, and there will be a legal back-up team
over the 2 days. We hope to provide opportunities for non-violent
direct action training before October. You are welcome to come as an
individual, but we would encourage you to bring a group of people
from your area.
