Re: State of the Union

I've never stopped playing, though I've shifted from tenor to bass (I
love my bass 'bone *purrs*). I've been seeing a lot more girls
playing recently, which is a nice change for me. I'm not in high
school anymore either, and am now playing with a band at a local
college, looking for and orchestra (anyone know a good orchestra that
needs a good bass around Los Angeles?).

As far as teaching young students, I'm just going to pass along what
I've been told ever since I started playing. Get them to do breathing
exercises. They help so much with everything you do. Scales and
whatnot, just hammer in the basics, even though I'm sure they're all
sick of them (I know I was). If you can, give them low level solo
stuff to work on, and then play for eachother.

That's my two cents...I was kind of surprised to get a message from
here....I kind of figured the group was totally dead!
