Glad to hear that your working out daily....
on your repertoire!.
Hi Rich,
I recently was speaking to a top trombonist here, who told me that when he is on
the train on the way to a gig or recording (late as usual) he mouths the words
to Jingle Bells (or some other well know song) as if he were trying to say it
to someone through a window. i.e. Totally over exaggerating, in order to warm up
the muscles in the facial area.
He tells me that he gets some weird looks from other commuters.
I am playing on an Edwards double valve (thayer valves) which I have had for
four or five years now. Great sound, easy to play,....but the second valve has
always been slow..and whatever I do I can't improve it's performance.
I do a 6 trom jazz group. A 12 piece trombone emsemble. A big band once a week.
A Trombone quartet...and various shows and orchestral paying gigs...
Always happy to chat on Yahoo messenger when I'm on it...
Regards,
David

That's a bit of poetic license, actually. These days, my practice is
pretty much limited to a few minutes' embouchure work during my daily
commute, with a spare mouthpiece I keep in the car. I'm hoping
eventually to hook up with a few like-minded geezers to jam with, but
that looks to be a long way in the future.
Backing up to an intro, I'm a 54-year-old former high-school first
chair (but it was a small school!), mostly trained in classical and
church music, also interested but not real experienced in jazz. I've
kept my trombone from school, a King 2-B that I got in ... 1964?
1962? I also play piano (fair) and fiddle (really, really badly) and
do a bit of songwriting when I get the time, which isn't often.
Appreciate your livening things up a bit here!
