As the great baseball player Satchel Page once said: "How old would
you be if you didn't know how old you were?"
You're never too old.
There's a guy in the community band I play in who gave up the trumpet
when he went to Korea in the early fifties. He didn't play for 48
years. Picked it up again in 2000. He's got something like sixty
great grandchildren, and 40+ grand children.
He plays fine. He's not first chair or anything, but it's not about
being first chair. It's about enjoying making music.
Get a good trombone. Buy a couple of method books. I'd be willing to
be you could get through a lot of material in no time. Then look for a
great community band in your area to get into.
