I joined this group several months ago. I've noticed that there's
not a lot of messages compared to the tuba/euphonium message boards.
Let me introduce myself somewhat.
My name is Roger E. Anderson. I started playing trombone in the 5th
grade (my first band director was a retired bass trombonist with Karl
King's touring band). I played all the way through high school. As
I got to the end of the 12th grade, I was planning on majoring in
writing in college, the local community college band director offered
me a full scholarship to major in music. I said "Okay."
I eventually graduated from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ
with a degree in instrumental conducting and music education.
Nowdays, I'm working on a DMA in Music Education.
I taught high school marching band for 11 years and now teach 4th-8th
grade band in Scottsdale, AZ. I also am the new assistant director
with a local community college community band.
Somewhere along the line, I switched from trombone to euphonium and
then to tuba. But I still make more money freelance as a trombonist
than any of the others (except maybe during the German food festival
months -- you know liederhosen and beer).
It's good to run across a list of trombone players who are closer
than the next ITA convention.
