Re: [Trombonists Anonymous] about superbone
the superbone is made by Holten only !
The bore is similar to a concert tenor horn (.525,.540)I think !
You can play the valves exclusively or the slide or together !
It's a very fun instrument to play !
I've heard recordings of Maynard Ferguson playing the Superbone on
albums from the 70's and 80's !
He even has a tune called "Superbone meets the Badman "where he duels
with a Tenor Sax !
It has a very powerful but buttery sound !
In the right hands this instrument can excel in a variety of
situations , especially while inprovising Blues and Jazz and
technical passages !
The Superbone is not cheap .I've seen them for sale on e-bay for
about 2 grand !
If you have experience playing trumpet, baritone, tuba or valve
trombone then you can play a Superbone ! They all have the
same "fingerings" !
You can transpose to any key by using the valves like a trigger in
conjunction with the slide !
Have fun and don't forget to play every day !
