Trumpeter/composer Ray Burkhart's Christmas cantata "The Little Child"
will be featured Saturday evening, Dec. 9, 2006 at Pasadena Presbyterian
Church during their "Candlelight & Carols" service, a Pasadena tradition
for over 60 years. The program begins at 7:00 p.m. and will also include
Ray's new work, "Three Renaissance Carols Reborn," fresh settings for
brass octet of three 15th century English carols: Thys Endere Nyghth -
Deo Gracias, Anglia - and Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day.
"The Little Child" is scored for SATB choir, 8 brass, 2 percussion,
organ and narrator. It tells the Christmas story in narration, carol
arrangements and original music and last about 23 minutes. The Pasadena
Presbyterian Church choirs will present other choral music, as well, and
some congregational carol singing will be included.
Admission is free and a reception follows. Child care will be provided
for infants and children to age 4.
