Hello,

There was a TV show about Roy Orbison (and the Tracveing Wilburys) on BBC Four last week. It was available on the web too but only for the UK country. Is there someone who recorded it?
Here is the link:

How the Traveling Wilburys Can Show You the Way

Filed under: Life Mentoring, Film, Right Brain — admin @ 3:47 pm

This oddity of contemporary rock and roll demonstrates
playful creativity and gives you permission to hop onboard
and play.

I’m talking about the Traveling Wilburys.  You may have
bumped into stories about them or heard their music.  I
recommend, in addition to listening to the music, that you
watch the DVD that comes with the 3 disk set.  The behind
the scenes section is a master class on playful creativity.

I’ve watched it three times.  What they do is so beautiful,
their relationships so loving, I am moved to tears each
time I see it.

The story starts with George Harrison, yes of the Beatles,
thinking it would be fun to get together with some friends
and jam a bit.  But one of his guitars is over at Tom’s
house.  That would be Tom Petty.  So Petty is now in on the
fun.

The night before, he had dinner with Roy Orbison.  So, Roy
was there.

Because he has a small recording studio in his house, they
give Bob a call.

George says, “You can call Bob for years and not get
answer.  This time he picked up the phone on the first
ring.”

So, Dylan is in on it.  And so it goes as they gather for a
couple of weeks in May 1988 of writing, playing, singing,
recording, and producing before Bob has to go on tour.
Everyone did each of those tasks.  They all played
together.

Harrison spent much of his energy making sure everyone
stayed friends.  He created a place of safety and playful
harmony for everyone.  Egos disappeared and joy emerged.

Get this.  None of them needed to make money with this
project.  Harrison says, “If we had tried to get these
people together to make an album it would never have
worked.”  Why do you think this is so?

They just got together to play.  Note the multiple meanings
of that word play.

They had so much fun and the results were so good they
wanted to share it.  You and I benefit.

Several of these men are experienced songwriters, Dylan
being the fastest and the most prolific, but even they used
tools to jump-start their writing.  Take note.

Here’s what they did.  They passed out magazines to
everyone and they flipped through pages and shouted out
words from ads.  This produced– Dirty World, a good-natured
song that makes me laugh with good humor.  It reminds me of
early Frank Zappa lyrics.

The behind the scenes DVD shares their fears, too.  Get
this: Fear of singing?  Fear of singing!?  Woof!

Remember these musicians have all been singing publicly to
huge audiences and in recording studios for decades.

They were afraid to follow Roy Orbison to the mike.  Who
wouldn’t be humbled by that?

Further note:  Their fear DID NOT STOP THEM.

I relearned –

1. Fear doesn’t go away.

2. Fear doesn’t stop you.
What can you learn from that?

Jeff Lynne, of Electric Light Orchestra, demonstrates
wrestling with the muse.  She dragged him out of bed and
sent him to the studio.  He broke into the studio one night
and changed the chord structure of a song leaving the
vocals untouched.  The guys liked it when they arrived in
the morning.

If you act on my suggestions, you will meet the muse too.
It’s a good thing.  She, who must be obeyed.

Upgrade your right brain.  Listen to music.  Play music,
even poorly.  Write silly songs.  Write powerful songs from
your heart.  All of these will expand your right brain and
improve your life.  I promise.

Take their master class –

Naturally, Amazon will let you listen to samples to hear
what I’m talking about.

The Seattle Library had a copy.

Blessings,

PS Pass this on to anyone you think might benefit from a master class.

I liked his first three albums, then untill he worked with Jeff Lynne, his work
was a bit dull.

Then he made two albums with Petty and Campbell, then until the last one appeared
I never bought any Petty,a 15 year gap.Petty and Lynne are perfect together.

Playback offers a booklet which gives great detail about the problems
surrounding Into The Great Wide Open, the rest of the Heartbreakers were not
happy working with Jeff Lynne.

I received my copy of the 2 cd plus dvd which is all regions but not PAL but
should still play on all players.

The remaster sounds lively and crisp, when played in pro logic 2 you get almost
5.1, with stereo rears.

"Like A Ship" is in my opinion the better track,Dylan and his rich voice, almost
Alexis Korner,in style.Jeff Lynne, pulls a brilliant guitar solo out of the
hat,you can hear the old and new parts,of the song clearly. It sounds very much
like "Lady Madonna,in parts.

"Maxine" adds little to the album but is very welcome.

"Runaway" is absolute proof of our brilliant Jeff Lynne,is. Recorded to give the
feel of the original hit and using the original gadget, which Jeff Lynne, bought
from ebay,so he said on radio 2, Wilbury special this year.

You get the lyrics in the Japanese booklet,in english and Japanese.

The standard booklet really tells you nothing except for the extra picture or
two and revised credits and design.

Worth the £29 GBP I paid to Keymailorder.

I expect the sound quality is better, than the UK version,Japanese cd usually
are.

Would have been nice to have the instrumental version of " Blue Moon" and the b
side "Runaway" which are different to the released remaster. i see no value in
special downloads or vinyl, they should have been on cd.

I wonder if Jeff Lynne has shares in the Wilbury company and trademark. Also he
no longer has a record contract, but Shard End,is very much alive.

Lets hope that the deluxe reprint of the collection is not bought bulk from
amazon by private sellers again, use hmv at least you stand a chance.

Where is everyone?

Plenty to discuss here.

Oh wow, the title got cut off AND I didn't give enough info. Sorry
about that.

So here goes:

Yesterday I saw a snippet of an upcoming (mainstream!) movie titled:
"Across The Universe." Its really a musical of over 30 Beatle songs,
reminiscent of the 60s. (sigh) It took me back. Yeah, I'm that old.
lol And I remember it as a time of peace, joy, happiness .. ... I
simply recall good (positive) f-e-e-l-i-n-g-s. Well, to be honest
there was some nonsense going on too, no doubt. BUT you could choose.
I healed a ton (!) of issues back then. Anyway, its coming out sept
21st! Have fun.

Now I have listened to both cd you can hear the vast improvement over the
earlier releases.

Much more detail and crisper reproduction.

One of the biggest influences on Jeff Lynne at that point was the Kinks. You
can also hear bits of guitar that remind me of Queen,on "I Like My Toy's",listen
to the end of "Seven Seas of Rhye". Robin Gable, worked with Queen.

But mostly you can hear bits of ELO.Jeff Lynne is without doubt E L O and both
albums prove that.

Both albums will take one hour of your time, the magic of E L O is there and you
could easily put ( the weatherman knows) on "ZOOM" and really not notice the
thirty year gap.

On the Elvis in Colour, tonight between 9 and 10 pm,you could hear "End of the
line" under the promotion they were running for some tickets.

The strange thing is regarding Elvis, and his first recording at Sun records is
they did not have a b-side. The first Wilbury single, started out as a b-side.

History has a strange way of repeating itself and the style and influence of
Elvis, lives on withing those two classic Wilbury albums.

Oooh it sounds wonderful, but no, I don't have a pic or the bag.

I have a car thing that says. 'Traveling Wilbury on board' LOL and a Wilbury guitar, and a Wilbury Shirt (not t-shirt), and a Wlbury Mug, but no bag :-(

Does anyone happen to have the canvas Wilburys promo bag made back in
the day..? I'd love a picture of the patch ~ I've tried to buy it on
eBay a year or so ago, but lost out.

Thanks much!
