*WEEKEND MUSIC CALENDAR
The work is really getting good around here. Just yesterday, I was working in the studio with several great artists. Producer/drummer Lion808 from Dubtex came by to deliver some new CDs he burned and printed for us, and to tell us that DUBTEX would be able to perform at SOUTH BY DUE EAST this year! Yea! (we also worked on a Dubtex video), and Randy Soffar (from our old '80's pop band, Z-ROCKS) came by to help dig through old unreleased recordings to put together the complete remastered Z-ROCKS for CD release, and to prepare to do a reunion set at BLUESGUY's Rock-N-Roll HOUSE PARTY on Sunday, February 20th.
This year, Bluesguy's Birthday Jam #5 will be a rock & roll party and jam in my back yard. Performing with The New Jack Hippies will be Tracy Conover, Opie AND CarrieAnn, Chango Jackson, EP VAllejo, Jimmy Deen, Buster Pennington, Ian Varley, Lion808, Check the web for directions (we're purposely making it a little difficult to find - three clicks), so only our friends and the truly fanatical might show up).
I had a cool weekend with Mikey and David, as I rode with them and their sound system to a cool gig in Lake Livingston with Opie Hendrix (I was substitute sideman for the night). Then, Roger, Chaz and I played an acoustic set at Fahl & Folk's regular Sunday evening hootenanny at The Last Concert Cafe the next night. The Cafe is one of those venues which Marlo always comes along to. The lighting may not be the greatest for shooting video, but the Mexican food is always on the mark!
A lot of my week has been spent shoring up performers and schedules for our two winter events, Bluesguy's Birthday Jam #5 and SOUTH BY DUE EAST 2005.

WORDS FROM MARK ZEUS
'Support!'
----------
My website and this email list are the only significantly
consistent forms of promotion that we have. We do occasionally get a listing
or mention in a local publication; we have a page and get some support and
listings on grassroots websites; and some independent DJs (God bless 'em)
will occasionally spin a recording. Special thanks to Pat and Rosie, and
Christi at KPFT. However, it is through this network (and subsequent
word-of-mouth) that we are able to get the word out about our music. If you
are on this list, you most likely do not care for mainstream music and are
searching for an alternative to it- or you simply are, or have been,
attracted to the music we put out.
As many others probably do in this business, I sometimes feel like I'm
hounding ( begging) folks to attend shows. Yeah, I know it's all part of
what needs to be done, and I know that many of you appreciate my houndings
and bantering- you've told me so. But, considering the amount of people on
this list (I lost count at 600 in the Houston area alone), attendance at our
shows and events rarely reflect a significant fraction of those receiving
these schedules and missives.
This is in no way a scolding. I know you all have busy lives and plenty of
other obligations. We are just another possible option for a sometimes rare
night out. We do appreciate when you make us your choice, and hope you feel
it was time well spent. There is another side to the equation though. Live
music in Houston needs the SUPPORT of folks like you and me to survive.
Venues are struggling to stay open. Many have discontinued music (most
recently Cactus Moon). What were once thriving live music venues are now
disco/hip-hop dance clubs, karaoke bars or simply juke joints. If that is
truly the future of musical entertainment and night life, so be it. I'm not
saying that the music scene is dying- far from it. There are many amazingly
talented musicians and groups in all genres, but they struggle to find
venues. If you would like to see more live music available, instead of
dwindling choices, get out and SUPPORT what we have, and show those
struggling venues that you like what they are doing. Successful venues will
breed more, and, in spite of media ignorance, through our networking and
word-of-mouth, live music will continue to thrive in Houston.

Good words, Mark!
That's it for now. I'll probably hear Drop Trio at Brasil, Ham Loomis at Dan Electro's and Texas Johnny Brown at The Big Easy tonight. What are you doing?
See you where the live music is!
