Great stuff going on this weekend!

For local music on video, check out Hippies.TV on Warner Cable channel 17, featuring the second program made from performances at last year's SOUTH BY DUE EAST 2004. As we gear up for this month's SOUTH BY DUE EAST 2005 on March 19th & 20th at Dan Electro's, we look back at last year's fun with performances by LunateX, Chango Jackson, Mad Mike, Drop Trio and CitiZEN Change.

For live music info, check the Blueshound's calendar (reprinted below) for all the musical action. Blueshound and Colleen put together this great calendar of area events every week, and I applaud them for their hard work!

And - remember that 'The BluesHound's Annual Spring Howl' will be held on March 13th at The Meridian!

I'm sorry if I haven't returned your email or phone call for the past few days. MArlo's Aunt Lida Lee passed away, and we headed off to San Antonio without our usual cadre of digital electronic and musical gear.

I wrote about Rock Romano's party last week, but had no time to tell you about my birthday jam. That changes now, but not before I add something I forgot last week. At Rock's party, the first guest artist was Herschel Berry, rocking in fine form. When I forgot to mention Herschel last week, the response by old friends (asking if he had been there) was huge. It's easy to forget how much some of my musical friends are loved!

REPORT:BLUESGUY'S ROCK-N-ROLL HOUSE PARTY
It was Fun, Fun, Fun!
----------
All the preparation paid off at the Birthday Jam. Billed as 'Bluesguy's Rock-n-Roll House party' this year, and held in our back yard, we rocked the neighborhood!

The party started a couple weeks earlier, as Pam Nolin and Marlo Blue began painting the yard blue. As I put together the talent and songs for the show part of the party, they were given an occasional helping hand by Jimmy Deen, Roger Tausz and I. Thanks to all!

The music started with a blast from my past.

Randy Soffar and I played songs from our '80's band, Z_ROCKS with Leesa Squyres on driums - wish we had her back then! People showed up with their old Z-ROCKS albums from back then, asking for our autographs, and singing along with the songs.

DJ Woo showed up to help MArlo with a camera, and so did Adrienne Currie and pam Nolin. Levon Louis handled the sound and the grill, and then took a few minutes away from the grill to add back-up voice to 'New Shoes'. Thanks, Levon!

Vertigo Blue performed next, and Mike Naus turned our yard into his own 'Area 51', doing a cool version of his underground hit. Then, The New Jack Hippies took the stage for our annual marathon, as we played backup band for Jimmy Deen, Carrie Ann Buchanan, P.J. Flowers, E.P. Vallejo, Norman Pennington and Opie Hendrix.

P.J. Flowers whipped out some of those 'Janis' vibes for a stunning rendition of our 'Understanding' (from the 'Blue Motel' CD), and Opie Hendrix led the Hippies through 17 minutes of a jammed-out 'Fire It Up', his highly requested song from The New Jack Hippies Homegrown Collective CD.

When Jimmy Deen took the stage, we sounded like The Rolling Stones, doing his song 'Little Sister' (a real rocker), and his version of our song  'Mexican Tulips' from my 'Texacousticana' CD. E.P. Vallejo rocked his 'Pick-Up Truck'.

Norman Pennington debuted a new song he wrote for me, called 'Happy Birthday Mr. Show', and Carrie Ann Buchanan chose to sing The New Jack Hippies "St. James Hall', from The 'Rock Onward' CD.

We ended that 2 hour set a very psyched-up group of Hippies.

Chango Jackson played next, as The New Jack Hippies settled into some serious partying of our own. Chango Jackson's revved up-punked-out rock and roll is a private delight of mine. I believe in these guys, and was honored that they wanted to play at my birthday party.

The minute Chango Jackson hit the stage, the rock and roll started oozing out of everybody's ears. Bringing finely crafted powerful pop songs with lyrics en espanol to the table, these guys rocked our party to the next level.

We hadn't planned to play again, but all of the Hippies were so motivated by Chango Jackson, that we jumped back onstage and the music went later than we expected. Lion 808 and John Chupin sat in on drums, and Opie Hendrix kept the guitar section full! Thanks, ya'll!

We're sifting through all the video and sound recordings, and I'll let you know where you can see and hear 'em!

Now we move on to SOUTH BY DUE EAST 2005, held at Dan Electro's this year. I just finished mastering the compilation CD from the 2004 event, and we've been patting each other on the back for all of the great sounds we've captured as a testament to our great local music scene.

Thanks for all the support during these great events!
