On the way back from San Antonio last week, MArlo and I decided to make a detour of 10 miles off of Interstate 10 and visit Dr. Zoomack & Harvana at their new place in Moulton, Texas, just south of Shiner. I am scheduled to play there with Vince Bell and Joe lindley this Saturday, and I had always told Jim that I'd visit on my next trip to SA. That trip to San Antonio had been a long time coming.

Heading south on Highway 95, we enjoyed the rural landscape during this rolling ride through the foothills of the Texas hill country.

Spotting a two-block section of a quaint downtown-like area, just a few hundred feet from the highway and over some railroad tracks, we decided to investigate and were rewarded with downtown Moulton, Texas. It was delightful. The first thing we saw was Ole moulton Bank, right on the corner with a big pane of glass with neon.

Inside, we were reminded of Jim's two former businesses (Dan E;ectro's & Heights Guitar), due to the guitars on the wall, and the similarly structured corner stage.

They were getting ready for the Thursday night bluegrass picking session with the 25 cent cover charge, so I grabbed my Martin Backpacker out of the trunk, and picked along to avoid the cover. <g>

Marlo bought something from Harvan'a boutique, and I know I'll be getting some of those cool conchoed jeans on Saturday, so that I can wear them when Vince, Joe and I play at Fred Eaglesmith's Texas Roundup at Gruene Hall on Sunday.

Jim said that in it's peak, Moulton (a town of 900 people) had 15 bars. There were still 3 on that block. I guess they love their beer!

The place was comfortable, the sound was great, and I know that they bring in a lot of our friends to play, so I can only recommend planning a visit when one of your favorites perform there.

Roger and I will perform on Pat & Rosie's Nightsounds from 4-6am on Monday morning. Don't laugh at the late time - because of the internet (www.kpft.org), we'll be heard by friends in Europe at lunchtime, and in Austrailia in the evening!

JAMBANDS
From HoopinMan
----------
I've never really liked the term "jamband" because it doesnt really describe the band you are trying to explain to people.....in the new Jambands.com interview with Jacob Fred Jazz Oddessy, Reed Mathis has this take on it....i have to agree with him:

HI: Your publicist tells me you all have some reservations about being characterized as a jamband. Perhaps you could tell me what you find most limiting about that label, and why you object to it.

RM: I shy away from terms like 'jamband' because they don't really tell you anything about the group. It's applied to so many different kinds of things that it doesn't contain any actual information about music. To say that you like jambands, doesn't tell you anything. It basically describes a circuit of venues or a type of audience member. It doesn't describe the music. If Medeski, Martin and Wood and Fareed Haque Group and moe and Yonder Mountain String Band all play the same kind of music, then I am a mouse that lives on the moon
