Not much of a newsletter this week - Just enough to tell you about tonight's episode of Hippies.TV and tomorrow's New Jack Hippies' gig at Rudyard's with Slapshifter.

 

That's right - if you are as big a fan of Leesa Harrington-Squyres as I am, you can shake your butt to her dynamic backbeat for a full night with two bands at Rudyard's on Saturday night. The New Jack Hippies play from 10pm 'til 12am, so we get her when she's fresh! Slapshifter gets her when she's warmed up, from midnite 'til closing time! Either way, Leesa fans can't miss.

 

Plus - I'll have some Hippies.TV DVDs for those who don't have cable!

 

Tonight's episode of Hippies.TV features Scarface, Dubtex, Neutral Sisters and The New Jack Hippies at the HoustonTsunamiRelief.org Kick-Off event in January.

 

In this edit, performed quickly in March (to apply for a second season of Hippies.TV on cable channel 17), are 3 songs by Dubtex (one of my favorites), and one song by each of the rest of us.

 

After putting this show together, MArlo and I decided to put some time into a full-length concert video of the Scarface set. He and Mike Dean had put together a really cool 11 piece funk band (The Formaldehyde Funk Men), but they only did two shows before 'Face had to go take care of commitments to the new Geto Boys album (which debuted at #19)!

 

But on the night when they played with us for the tsunami benefit, Alan Cunningham mixed a great board mix onto my mini-disc machine, and MArlo, Roger, Pamela and I all had cameras in our hands.

 

So - besides 2 New Jack Hippies gigs, and a little production on a live Chango Jackson CD, I've been working on little else for about 3 weeks, and it's almost finished. Formaldehyde Funk Man guitarist Corey Stoot came by on Tuesday to view a ruff cut and help me with song titles and musicians names. I was very pleased that he was happy with the sound. Eric Marquez at channel 17 has already given us the go-ahead on the air-time to do a special full-hour Hippies.TV-Scarface show in June or July.
