*LOVE vs. The WORLD
*WEEKEND MUSIC CALENDAR
Greetings! What a busy week! As the gulf coast pours into Texas,
the phone calls and emails are flying about ways that musicians
can help. This time, it's not just on TV from across the globe.
They're right here. Go give someone your old clothes. Another
benefit concert is nice, but this time the evacuees (I'm not fond
of calling them refugees, for some reason) are right down the
street.
The Hightailers, at their Thursday night gig at The Last Concert
Cafe, allowed the folks from Louisiana in for free, and are
considering making it an extended policy for now. There are all
types of little things we can do. They are everywhere in our town,
and many need help. If you want to give money at a benefit rock
show instead, there will be plenty. Number's is putting together a
string of them next week, and they aren't the only ones - but this
time you can touch the people and do it directly - and that feels
pretty darn good!
Most of my time has been as a webmaster this week, getting the
next Hippies.TV on the web, but we also did one musical thing that
we are thrilled with. After 8 years and as many tries, Roger and I
finally got a worthy recording of our song, 'Love Against The
World', one of our favorites. There are some recordings that
happen quickly, in one take, and then there are the one's which
never feel quite right. Randy Wall turned out to be the missing
ingredient. We just jammed it with him, and were totally impressed
by what he contributed at Bong Island Sound the other day....

The rest of the world will still have to wait a few weeks, but
while the new clips are being uploaded I'm sending you a few URLs.
Please let me know how the download or stream works for you, and
any comments you have about the episodes.
This is a whole new step up for our web video thing. The audio and
video quality of these web clips are better than anything we've
put up previously! On a broadband connection like roadrunner, you
can begin streaming these shows as soon as 13-30 seconds.
For those new to Hippies.TV (the series), and most of you will be,
these are short films about many of the great musical artists in
our Southeast Texas musical community. I get called upon to do
some cool musical stuff with all types of musicians and artists,
so Marlo and I get to bring our cameras along and shoot. Some
shows feature an event filled with several artists, and some zero
in on one artist for a sort-of musical portrait. Some are created
at our annual events, like my BLUESGUY'S BIRTHDAY JAM and SOUTH BY
DUE EAST (Marlo Blue's Guerilla Marketing Experiment). Others are
about our adventures with The New Jack Hippies, including new
adventures and 'Classic Hippies.TV' (usually concert film from our
past).
Some of our shows are produced with broadcast-quality production
values all the way around, and others are guerilla productions,
where we throw those considerations out the window and just
capture an event or performance in any way we can.
I don't have the web site working with these new, larger clips,
yet, but here are a few URLs to get you started. With my new email
set-up, I'm not certain whether they'll appear to you as links, so
just copy and past 'em into your browser if you need to. These
files are 75-110megs, so be sure you can handle it. I'll make
smaller clips soon. And do me a favor - If you think you'll be
viewing these programs several times, please download a copy onto
your computer to save bandwidth at the site. Feel free to pass
them along to your friends.
