Saturday should prove to be amongst the most musically diverse days of my career, as I play guitar with RUSTED SHUT at 8pm at WESTFEST (in front of Imagine That - Montrose @ Fairview), and then play bass with VINCE BELL at Anderson Fair about 90 minutes later. I'll add some words about WESTFEST COMPRESSED, from Martin, later in this letter.
I'll be with Vince next week, too, including Thu-Fri dates in Austin and Wimberly.
Lot of background work being done recently.
I've almost got everything up at the new websites. A lot of work for very little change, but that change DOES include the delivery of much better video and audio to broadband users, so we are excited about it!
We're almost down to date selection for this winter's annual events. birthday jam & SOUTH BY DUE EAST (which will be two weekends long this year, adding a weekend of young touring bands to our established local music movie-making event. Birthday jam is tentatively set for February 11 or 12, and SXDE will probably be March 17-19 & 24-26 (at Dan Electro's).
Billy Block called from Nashville, and we'll be setting up this years NASHVILLE STAR 4 auditions for December 2nd. The new jack hippies had a blast being the house band for that show last year. Do you know anyone who could make it through those auditions? Send me to their website, please!
Sorry about the Music Calendar. The website situation has caused me to change temporary emails a few times, and I haven't kept The BluesHound & Colleen current enough to get their calendar to me. Should have that rectified by next week.

Friends-
Hopefully you've heard by now that a smaller version of the Westheimer Street Festival is returning this weekend to Westheimer. I like to think that good news travels fast (the other kind certainly does), and that there's a certain amount of buzz on the street despite a modest promotion budget.
Tomorrow we find out whether or not it is possible to bring back a
Montrose institution, and if anyone even cares. The answer to both
questions may well be 'no'--after all, Montrose has changed, Houston
has changed, and exercises in nostalgia seldom turn out the way you
expect. Even so, I'd like to personally invite all of you to come out tomorrow afternoon and "party like it's 1999".
Again, this is a much smaller event than the event staged by others in previous years. There are only four stages, three of them tightly clustered around the Westheimer/Taft intersection (Numbers, Helios, & Mango's), one a bit further from the action at Montrose/Fairview(Imagine That). You can find out who's playing where by either downloading the stage schedule from the festival website(www.westfesthouston.com) or by picking up a copy of Free Press Houston.
Even if a majority of the bands you want to see are all at one end or the other, try to make it by all the stages and show your support. I intend to spend as much time as possible in as many parts of the event as possible, and very much look forward to seeing all of you. If you are in a band and feel that you have been passed over, please accept my apology on behalf of the festival. With such a small number of stages, some hard decisions had to be made. If the event is a success, wider inclusion can certainly be expected in future editions.

Still and all, a line-up diverse enough to include THE MIGHTY ORQ,
RUSTED SHUT, FREE RADICALS, & DJ SUN ain't half bad--particularly when it's free.
A huge debt of thanks for this project is owned to Omar Afra,
publisher of Free Press Houston. This event would not be occuring if it weren't for Omar's community spirit and virtuosity at the art of the deal. If you know him personally and you do make it out tomorrow, be sure to thank him. If you don't know him, you're thanking him anyway--just by showing up.
Best Regards,
M. Martin
