I just finished the first ruff edit of 'SOUTH BY DUE EAST - Three Years', a fifty minute (so far) film featuring great performances by over 40 Houston artists!

 

 

I know that there are still mistakes and omissions. The sound on Los Skarnales and David Fahl hasn't been mastered yet, and I haven't put graphics identifying Jennifer Grassman and Sonny Boy Terry, but it'll all come together. The audio is really good in general!

 

Great Texas art shines thru on some of these performers. Opie Hendrix is there, Susan's steel guitar and all. Sandy Hickey sings Jerry Lightfoot! The infamous Chango Jackson chemical suit scene is included, as is Muzak in his 'Wizard of Gloz' Judy Garland tribute outfit and Rusted Shut's surprise Saturday night street-punk's tribute to Houston blues, and Lightning Hopkin's.

 

Two more things -

 

The April acoustic tour with Opie looks good, so far. Dates include Billy Block's Exit/In show in Nashville, The Grand Emporium in Kansas City, and gigs in Louisville for Kentucky Derby Weekend! If you know a good venue between those areas, let me know, please!

 

Also, it's time to suggest great Houston artists we might not know for this year's film-making festivities!
