Greetings from Little Rock!

 

It's 3am, and we'll be home in Houston tomorrow night to play some music!

I'll take part in the KPFT benefit at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar on Saturday night at 10pm, and perform a set with Roger and Chaz at The Last Concert Cafe at 6pm on Sunday. More about the KPFT benefit later in this letter.

 

It's been a funny week in a month which began in New Orleans and passed thru Florida on the way to Atlanta, Greensboro Nashville and more. Hasn't been too eventful, but often fun and musical. It's been 5 months on the road, but we'll be home for a while now. Lot's of cool stories to tell, and lots of new songs and films that help tell 'em. Some of that later in this letter - more to follow.

 

It will be good to be home.

Many people have just discovered YouTube.com from all of the recent news about YouTube being sold to Google for a billion and a half. As a subscriber to this letter, you know about YouTube, and may have seen many of our films there, including performances by great Texas musicians like Billy Joe Shaver, Vince Bell, Jack Saunders, Buck Jones along with me and The New Jack Hippies.

 

This week, I've added short films featuring blues great Hamilton Loomis doing his great funk song 'What It Is', and dirty south Hiphop icon Mr. Scarface fronting an 11 piece funk band!

A Tribute To Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead

I don't remember all of the great artists who will perform, but there is a Jerry Garcia tribute featuring a whole lot of artists on two stages tomorrow night (saturday the 21st) at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar to benefit KPFT. It'll start early.

 

Some of the artists I remember from the bill are Hightailers, Brad Martin, Opie Hendrix, Hank Woji, and Ju Ju Eyeballs, but there are lots more. I'll play with The New Jack Hippies at 10pm.

We're working on three albums of new music right now, one rock, one funk, and one blues.

 

This new song is a rocker featuring a New Jack Hippies rhythm section (Leesa Squyres, Randy Wall, Roger Tausz, Guy Schwartz), as well as background vocals by The Madisons and MArlo Blue.

ONE QUICK STORY

I was rolling out the cart full of gear and luggage this morning in Nashville, when I discovered that the ramp was being blocked by two cars that had each parked over the lines which clearly indicated a necessary clearing for the ramp.

 

I thought to myself, What idoits would park like this? They'd have to be blind to miss those painted lines on the parking lot! I considered confronting them when they came out. I WOULD be loading for the next 45 minutes and we were already doing a late checkout, so I'd probably see one or both drivers soon.

 

I went back to the room and loaded the cart again.

 

Upon arriving pack in the parking lot, I saw that one vehicle was gone, but the green passenger van was still blocking the ramp so it was useless to me. What an inconvenience! But, I decided to be as zen as I could. The Dalai Lama would say that this was just an opportunity to practice patience and tolerance, so I decided that I would work on self-improvement by not confronting anyone with comments like, "Are you blind, or what?"

 

Next thing I new, I was loaded up and ready to go get MArlo, when I heard the automatic door locks of the green van make their unlocking sound. I looked up to see a woman with the keys. Behind her were four men, each holding one of those wands that blind people use to sense obstacles as they walk. THEY WERE BLIND!!!

I laughed out loud and got out of the way.

 

As two of them passed me, I turned to them and told them the whole story. They laughed and laughed! I laughed and laughed. I told MArlo, and she laughed, too.

Now I'm telling you! You know what to do!
