BLUESGUY'S ONLINE 420 HOUSE PARTY
Wednesday Nights at 9pm
----------
It's a chat room - It's a video conference - It's an online house concert - It's a party!

During this weekly live video webcast, I play a little rock, blues, funk,
folk & country from all of my different CDs and albums. I perform acoustically,
without the whole band, or with whomever drops by
(guests have included Randy Soffar, Roger Tausz, Patrick Brink and Mikey Farber!).

MArlo Blue says she'll be logging on tonight after she anchors the news on KPFT-FM90.1 (kpft.org) at 5pm. The play she's in has begun it's run, so Wednesday rehearsals are over. With MArlo logged-on and in the room, we know the chat area is gonna be hot and heavy while I sing some songs.

Music, chat, Q&A, guitar lessons... it's always different.

It happens at  http://www.stickam.com/bluesguy
at 9pm CDT (10pm EDT) Wednesdays!

The party always lasts for at least 60 minutes, but sometimes/often goes until later/late.
You don't need a webcam to watch, chat & listen!

I WALKED AWAY FROM A HEAD-ON w/ an 18-WHEELER
Whew!

*NOT A ROCK & ROLL MUSIC STORY*
(although there was plenty of rockin' AND way too much rollin'!)
---------- ----------
The events began sometime around/before 11am on Saturday. I turned east onto Canino Road from the feeder of I-45N. I proceeded slowly - not just because I knew there was only 100-200 feet until my right turn onto Stuebner-Airline, but also because I observed a wrecker with flashing lights facing me up ahead at the stop sign for the westbound traffic.

Not going as far as that wrecker, I turned right cautiously onto Stuebner-Airline and immediately noticed the front of a red Peterbuilt truck parked in my lane - headed the wrong way and aimed right towards me. There was also oncoming traffic in the other lane.

I jammed on my brakes and came to stop. Then I noticed the truck was actually moving slowly - towards me... without a driver in sight.  During these two or three seconds - which seemed like a couple minutes - I threw my car into reverse. About that time, collision occurred - bumping me backwards. The combination of the truck's slow speed and the fact that I had begun to accellerate in reverse obviously mitigated the force of the collision to the extent that the air-bags didn't employ. The truck stopped. I stopped and jumped out of the car for safety.

When I jumped out of the car, I noticed two men coming towards me  - one each from the north and south on Stuebner-Airline. As I stepped further, I saw that the truck was hooked up to a wrecker, and although I had SEEN a huge truck coming towards me, blocking the entire windsheild view from my little Scion, it had actually been a wrecker - backing up on the street with the large truck attached by the wrecker's towing system.

At first, these two guys started chastising me for not seeing the situation in time to prevent the collision. I figured out that they were the two wrecker drivers - one towing a truck, and the other stopping traffic. I pointed out that that from my point of view, it had been impossible to see the truck (they were behind a building) until just before I turned, and that was at a point when I was distracted by giving proper lookout to the other wrecker with the flashersdown the road - who should have done more than stop way across the way. Even on this hot day, he should have been out of his vehicle directing traffic on both sides of the intersection, or called another wrecker. They knew the job needed to stop traffic for safety, but they only stopped traffic on one approach to the intersection.

But -

I had survived!

The car was screwed, but I had survived a head on collision with an 18-wheeler!

Whew!

I'm the luckiest boy in the world!
