Erin Wright asked me, "How does one get Guy Schwartz to play bass in their band?"
I replied, "Tell him that Erin Wright is coming in after her other gig, so he he can play one set and then listen to Erin Wright!"
Erin was arriving at The Last Concert Cafe to play bass on the second set with El Gato Negrito, who has taken over the Tuesday night spot recently occupied by Scott Daniels Band, and by Carolyn Wonderland for years before them!
I played bass on the first set for the past couple weeks, and have had a blast doing so. Not only do I love Mary Allen and her jamming/rock/latin style - I also love playing bass and don't get to do it much anymore!
Why don't I get to play bass much anymore?
Two reasons!
Firstly - most of the younger (35 and under) musicians in town don't even know I play bass! For those who don't know - bass is my natural instrument, which I played professionally for decades!! Once Roger and I decided to play our songs in our own band, I switched to guitar. We really didn't need two bassists at once. Consequently, most locals know me as a bandleader, producer, songwriter and half-assed guitarist. Tasteful in my simplicity, but not an accomplished soloist. It's funny and satisfying to hear all of the kind, positive reactions I get from those hearing me play bass, my best instrument, for the first time!
Secondly - most of the local music scene is under the impression I'm too busy in the studio, or on tour, or editing our films and TV shows, and wouldn't be able to make the gig. This is not always true, and I recommend each of you to call me when you need a bass player - I'm pretty f**kin' good! 832-622-2295!
Anyway, El Gato Negrito will be there on Tuesdays (unless it's Carolyn's night), and I recommend a visit to see if it's a weekly thing you'd like to support!
And now, on to this weeks, episode of SOUTH BY DUE EAST Television!

BLUESGUY'S ONLINE 420 HOUSE PARTY
Wednesday Nights at 9pm
----------
It's a chat room - It's a video conference - It's an online house concert - It's a party!
During this weekly live video webcast, I play a little rock, blues, funk,
folk & country from all of my different CDs and albums. I perform acoustically,
without the whole band, or with whomever drops by
(guests have included Randy Soffar, Roger Tausz, Patrick Brink and Mikey Farber!).
MArlo Blue says she'll be logging on tonight after she anchors the news on KPFT-FM90.1 (kpft.org) at 5pm. The play she's in has begun it's run, so Wednesday rehearsals are over. With MArlo logged-on and in the room, we know the chat area is gonna be hot and heavy while I sing some songs.
Music, chat, Q&A, guitar lessons... it's always different.
It happens at http://www.stickam.com/bluesguy
at 9pm CDT (10pm EDT) Wednesdays!
The party always lasts for at least 60 minutes, but sometimes/often goes until later/late.
You don't need a webcam to watch, chat & listen!
