My apologies for a newsletter with only a greeting, an events calendar and a shameless plug, but BLUESGUY'S BIRTHDAY JAM #4 is tomorrow afternoon, and time is slippin' away! I promise a big essay on the events behind this week's events, as soon as we return from visiting Gurf & Brynda in Austin next week!
We're just about ready for the Birthday Jam, too! It's all coming together!
We've gotten press in The Music News, and great article in The Houston Chronicle (check it out at ), and made a half dozen radio appearances to promote the Valentine's day show.
Sandy Hickey, Heath Spencer Philip and Gloria Edwards will perform early, due to gigs that evening in other cities and early venues, and Sonny Boy Terry will arrive to join us at The Rhythm Room a bit later in the show, after he teaches some harp lessons. Tracy Conover will play later in the show, too, but she says she'll be there early to hang out and eat BBQ. The New Jack Hippies will perform for one marathon three-hour set - with our friends sitting in throughout. Besides that, I have no idea what order the fun will happen tomorrow afternoon, so get there early to enjoy some food with us before-hand if you'd like, but the show starts at 3pm.
I'll pick up the new BLUE MOTEL CDs in an hour, and we'll have those plus a special numbered and signed advance 'support the artists efforts' edition of the upcoming 4CDSet (4 CDs for $20 - over four hours of new studio recordings including ruff mixes and alternate takes) available for the first 15 people who want 'em.
Marlo's made certain we'll have BBQ and birthday cake, as well as running a three or four camera video crew, ready to record all of the music - and our messy eating habits! Roger is bringing multi-track recording gear, and so is Kirk Madden, so with guest artists like Little Joe Washington, Kool B, Jerald Gray, Opie Hendrix and Dr. Rockit, we ought to be able to get a great movie and album from this event!
